Sorry Fezinio, your thread has kind of mutated into a discussion about bumping but it is good to get all sides out into the open as then things can move forwards in more harmony as people understand each other
*Dives in*
I'm also against 'bumping threads for the sake of it'. So what if it is about to end? There will always be loads & loads of others!
If someone wants to enter a comp they are all there, it takes a lot longer to work through comp threads when they keep being bumped beacuse they are 'about to end' or 'not many people have seen this one' etc, etc, the list just goes on!
When I started comping on here, I did all the up-to-date ones then gradually worked my way back to the first page of comps - took a while, what with keeping up with new ones as well - but it was my personal responsibility to find the comps I wanted to enter. It would be quite arrogant if I had expected/relied upon others to bump 'good' comps that were endingAlso quite selfish of me to ignore the rules for this forum & assume other people wanted posts bumped when the rules are very clear about just that situation.
8. No Bumping Of Posts. Please do not just bump posts for the sake of it. This disrupts the boards
This rule is there for a very good reason. It doesn't mean no discussion or conversation on a thread - just don't bump it for the sake of it, even if it is well intentioned. (Road to hell is paved with good intentions.... springs to mind)
If we follow the rules then things are designed to work. If the rule/s don't work then discussion needs to take place to design better ones. It is only my opinion but if compers take responsibility for finding/entering the comps they want to, then surely that is better
Phew, now that's off my chest... Thanks for listeningSad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
Has anyone got an F.Hinds jewellery catalogue?
What page number of F. Hinds' Precious Christmas Gifts Catalogue is the Status Quo Collector's Edition featured?
Also did anyone get the express newspaper this weekend for the codes? (Thanks gingerchick)
Sorry catz I haven't got the Hinds catalogue & we don't buy newspapers - I just read them online. Hopefully someone else may have thoughSad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
'friad the date subject crops up on a regular basis but there's been no practical alternative to the current system and most people find it works OK or adapt to it within a short while.
I'm also not a fan of bumping either but very occasionally it can be beneficial, e.g. a mega prize like a car that mighth have been originally posted 6, 12 or 18 months ago. I find it very distracting to open bumped threads that I've entered weeks ago. Just my 2pworth.From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

Yup, gotta agree with the anti-bumping brigade, also the 'thanking'/'I'd love to win one of those' posts which bump threads from previous days (or longer!)....imagine the mess if we all did that:eek: ! Though 'thanking' on frequently added-to threads (like Puzzler) doesn't seem to cause much of a problem.
As for working through old threads, when I first started on here (a while before I joined!) I used to do the most recently posted comps, then slowly worked through the oldest ones when I had a bit of time to spare. I doubt many compers manage to get through every single one on here!
I think the MSE system works really well and I just want to say a big THANK YOU (without bumping:rotfl: ) to everyone who posts comps:beer:0 -
I just start from the back and work my way forward. Not such a good idea to bump threads as I entered a few (by mistake) yesterday that I'd already entered at the risk of disqualifying myself if you can only enter once - not that I usually enter anything more than once.0

I'm subscribed to the Competitions Time forum but didn't get the email for yesterdays new comps. As I'm new and trying to catch up on old comps and keep up to date with the new ones the email is a lifesaver. Did anyone get theirs that would be willing to forward it to me?
I'f anyone could help pls PM me & I'd be really, really grateful. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking.
Of course all the other emails I've subscribed to came through fine, just the Comping one.
Thanks so much,
