I'm also Virgin. There was a lot of stuff on the newsgroup about DNS errors on Virgin earlier this week, 'cos I had to use a specific server and use a webcache, but I thought it was sorted. Also, this isn't Virgin specificAl Mac Appreciation Society (AMAS) member # 6½

OK BF thinks he has it sussed!
It is to do with DNS Servers not working, so not being able to match up the name of the site with the actual numerical IP address. This seems to be an issue with the servers of 123-reg.co.uk also hosteurope.com (same company but different names)
Until they can get their act together we type in the name of the site but they don't go look up the IP address! Some people will not have this issue because their computers (or in some cases their ISPs) keep a cache (temporary record) of the DNS info which means that they can access the site even though the DNS servers aren't working (in other words their computers/ISPs already know the numerical IP address & take them straight there).
Not really sure we can do anything but wait- I'm sure the web owners of the sites affected will be quite vocal when they realise the problem with people not being able to get to the site.

We are currently aware of a problem regarding 123-reg nameservers which in turn is affecting the visibility of websites and services such as email. At present, we have engineers looking into this as a matter of urgency. Please be assured we are working to rectify this issue as a priority and hope to resume normal service as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience in the mean time. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -

I've been surfing around to find out more about this as I have 2 sites on 123-reg that aren't accessible and one is launching my partners company which is having a print advertising campaign which cost a few hundred pounds starting on Monday!
According to various reports they seem to have been suffering this problem since about 5.30pm yesterday! Previous to this they were a very well respected service provider!Do You Twitter?
