Help me tackle my teenagers bedroom !

Options
Hi guys
I have twin boys both aged nearly 15 .. and they couldn't be more different.
One gets showered twice a day and changes his clothes up to 3 times a day .. the other I'm lucky if he changes his boxer shorts once a week ... I do make him but if I didn't I know he would be a once a week kid lol.

They are both pretty tidy .. rooms are always tidied by them before they go to bed and "most" plates and cups are always brought downstairs and "normally" washed by them ... the problem is the room of the lazy one stinks ! .. he doesn't smell but his room stinks.
I do leave the window on the latch open and it is normally a morning that it smells and normally ok by lunch but what can I do ? I've tried a few room freshness but does anyone have any good recommendations ?

P.s. He would kill me if he knew I typed this ;)

    Hi and good luck!
The best way I found ( eventually ) was to ban all food from upstairs .
I also wanted cups and glasses back to the kitchen or else . It's food that causes the smell, carpet and other stains . It did take me years to get to that point but it works .

Thanks polly .. they are pretty good and by the end of the day the plates and cups are all down stairs but I'm wondering if there's something stinky somewhere ?

They are going on a trip at the end of the month so I think I will pull room apart and give it a deep clean ;)

Being the owner of 2 teenage boys and a teenage girl, I find the aroma of the male version was particularly specific to teen male.

The youngest's remedy was the 'lynx' shower I.e spray enough to kill a buffalo at 100 meters

The eldest's was to round up stray socks that were attempting to nest in various dark holes and round them up into the washing machine once a month whether they needed it or not....

The female teen avoided odour issues by insisting that clothes that have been looked at with the human eye for more than 10 seconds had to be washed and had a rather obsessive need to change her bedding 2-3 times a week as it was all so 'pretty'

Luckily only one is now resident, and he has grown out of the hormone hell which is being a teen ;)

Teenage male hormones can be literally eye-watering.

Maybe your non-washing son's hygiene will improve when he gets a girlfriend.

When my son was a teenager he had a few rules, these were.

He wasn't to go out and see mates/have play station time unless his bedroom was both clean and fairly tidy.

All dirty clothes must be washed on a saturday, if not time with mates and the play station will not be allowed until clothes are washed.

No food allowed upstairs at all, as for drinks, water only upstairs.

Any clothing left laying around the house (apart from uniform) would be binned.

It sounds like an overnight flatuence issue!! :(

A tweak to his diet or an ioniser in the room overnight. Or the window open all night too?

Good luck on eliminating teen odour. I can still vividly recall the Y10 PE changing rooms smells, even walking past a group of Y10 boys brought tears to my eyes. Some stinking of the over application of Lynx and the others of an under application of Lynx.

Thanks guys .. yep I definitely have one over applicator of lynx and one under lol
I never thought about socks ... my rather aromaful son does have a bit of a sock thing ... I have had to take all socks out of his room as he keeps tying them in knots, I know it sounds stupid but I'm talking every pair and not just his his brothers as well. I think it's a stress thing as it started when his dad left
But apart from the socks and the aroma I can honestly say they are both fab kids .. never in trouble at school, both in top class for everything and both well manored and polite (ish) .. even with a few hormones thrown in lol

The way he behaves at the minute I don't think girls are in the picture for a good while .. he's so much more of a child than his brother and it's all friends and computers so unless she is an ork on Warcraft chances are slim lol

Be grateful My eldest asked if was okay for a mate to stay over one night, said yes, didn't think anything of it till the next morning when a very sheepish young lady appeared with him..... I was, for once, speechless - 3 years on they are still together though :D

Perhaps that should be the plan.
