Being the owner of 2 teenage boys and a teenage girl, I find the aroma of the male version was particularly specific to teen male.

The youngest's remedy was the 'lynx' shower I.e spray enough to kill a buffalo at 100 meters

The eldest's was to round up stray socks that were attempting to nest in various dark holes and round them up into the washing machine once a month whether they needed it or not....

The female teen avoided odour issues by insisting that clothes that have been looked at with the human eye for more than 10 seconds had to be washed and had a rather obsessive need to change her bedding 2-3 times a week as it was all so 'pretty'

Luckily only one is now resident, and he has grown out of the hormone hell which is being a teen ;)

Even though that was a joke, just goes to show the casual sexism and stereotypes that are allowed to occur,

And its ok for a girl to be over obsessive and to joke about mens issues.

You wouldn't like to see the bad hygine 2 of my exes had! (female) who were in their 20s.

I almost took a house share where I would be the only male tenant, every radiator in the property as well as a few clothes horses were covered in clean but not put away underwear which was quite frilly, mouldy plates in the sink too.

It reminds me of those stereotypical febreeze adverts every one with a male shows them to be slobs, the ones with women show them to just be overworked but tidy.

Not having a brother and my male cousins being so much younger than me, it was a shock to the nostrils to discover what teenage boys smelled like when my son was around 15.

On one memorable occassion, he was told to shower and came out smelling just as bad! DH told him it must take a particular knack to do that.

He's now 17 and as likely to find a girlfriend as you describe, but by chance I stumbled across a solution a few months back.

We had our bathroom revamped, getting rid of the 80yo tiles and bath. Son wasn't happy but they had gone beyond salvageble. Much to our surprise he loved the new bathroom. Within the first 24 hours of it being finished he'd had a bath on 4 occassions.

Of course spending several thousand on a refurbished bathroom ust to get your teen to smell more pleasant is a bit drastic not to mention to increased heating/water bills. :D

Hi guys thanks for the advice ..

They both have very tidy bedrooms as they clean there rooms every night before bed .. it's just th blooming smell lol
I think because they are twins I thought they might be the same but one defo has a wiff.
I am going to try going through the room and moving all furniture to check if anything has been dropped behind.
I think I will try the mattress topper thing as well .. they have memory foam toppers at the minute so I might use the protector on top of this or buy a new topper if needed.
Neutradol is a good idea as well as I've heard that neutralises most smells so fingers crossed
He does spend a lot of time in his room but I have the window on the latch since around may time so should be ok for airing ...

I'll let you know how I get on

It's the smell of masturbation. They'll calm down in a few years.

Apart from washable mattress protectors, which I agree is a good idea, don't forget the pillows and duvet - they can get musty as well after a while.

Saw this today and thought of this post, tongue in cheek, of course!

Entering a teenager's bedroom is like a trip to Ikea...

You pop in just to look and you end up leaving with 6 cups, 2 plates, 3 bowls and a tea towel!

Please don't, you might well find things you don't want to find. I would have been mortified if one of my parents had gone through my room and moved furniture when I was 15 - I didn't have anything to hide but personal space is so important.
If the smell fades throughout the day it sounds like it's just body odour smells and opening the window more would do the trick.
