Maybe your non-washing son's hygiene will improve when he tries to get a girlfriend.

Perhaps that should be the plan.

I'm hoping so ... he does shower and stuff but I know it's only because I nag him to death :o

Dear Mott, don't worry, its just boys. One of mine was not in the least odiferous but the other one.....PHEW!
It was sort of washing related, he would wash his hair 3 times in 3 different substances but his efforts didn't, alas, extend to his neck.

As for his bedroom.........................have you ever seen those rooms on Hoarders? They seem eerily familiar to me. I was working 18 hour days at the time and we lived in a ridiculously large house with a shifting population of friends and students. There was a limit to how much control I had over the tidy bedroom situation, and it showed. I coped by keeping his door closed and on the occasions that I could face climbing over the mountains of detritus across the room I would open the window wide.
As someone else said, all changed when he discovered girls. We went swiftly into the Lynx phase, not nice but preferable to what went before.

When they had their own homes they both became very houseproud. The only thing that neither of them would do was ironing.

So just get through the next couple of years as best you can. Try to keep a modicum of order in their rooms but be prepared to do the odd deep clean yourself when you can and when this stage is over you may find it beneficial to get new mattresses, duvets, bed linen etc. Literally a fresh start.

Both my boys were very clean, and often showered twice a day when it was hot or when they were playing spirt. And yes they were lavish with the lynx. Used to make me cough, vile stuff. In the end I bought them better cologne and toiletries because I couldn't stand the smell of lynx. :rotfl:

Didn't make any real difference though their rooms still stank. Male teenage hormones are very potent but fortunately that really heavy musky smell is relatively short lived.

All you can do is fling the windows open and wash the bedding regularly. I used to change their bed linen twice a week. It helped a bit.

MOTT: I remember our English teacher's speech when she was leaving our Girl's Grammar School.

She said that her previous school was a boys school, so she knew what boys smelled like. After 7 years at our school she now knew what girls smelled like. She was looking forward to her next school because she was going to find out what girls and boys smelled like together.

Would leaving the window ajar overnight help?

My late brother was very fond of Brut in his stinky years, all down to Henry Cooper! Even the telephone stunk of it. Mind you, that was so much better than the other scent of the time, Hai Karate.

My guess is there is something in there that is causing the smell - maybe shoes, or a towel or clothes that was put away wet. Even the carpet - could there be damp or something spilt that has caused a problem. How about the mattress, or damp behind furniture?

Its a bit drastic, but how about suggesting redecorating his room - if you can pull everything out, redecorate and put down a new carpet, if it is an offending item rather than an offending child it should be sorted out.

The way he behaves at the minute I don't think girls are in the picture for a good while .. he's so much more of a child than his brother and it's all friends and computers so unless she is an ork on Warcraft chances are slim lol

Maybe that's the issue. My DD (11 yo) tends to get quite whiffy, her body is maturing, but her attitude is too young to keep up, and she just doesn't "get" hygiene - it isn't important to her. Sorry, that's empathising rather than an answer.
