Trying to beat this thing called debt..

Not a NSD day, but we did a 3 1/2 mile walk this afternoon and it was lovely to be out and about its been a while since we've managed a walk.. I've done my Sunday rounding down and my savings are now at £31.65... Its quite shocking to me to have savings of that (small) amount. Shockingly since I stopped working and having been mainly doing voluntary work I've never had savings...
I've also decided to start a weekly direct direct debit to H rather than a monthly one for my cc..im also thinking of making a direct debit into my savings towards my phone bill-even if it just covers half the bill it will mean the week that the payment goes out will be a little easier...feel much more in control than before0 -
Monday and Tuesday gone already, thought I'd posted since Sunday but I must have just thought about it. Monday was a very spendy day as I went into the city with H, while he was at work for part of the day. Needed dishwasher tablets, treated myself (£1.99) to a little case for in my handbag for headphones and charger lead.. Also got spare charger lead £2.25). My two dds both went out on monday too so that's them sorted til next month. We are still moving m-i-l.. Got her in on Saturday but then need to empty rest of house. We were there all day yesterday, got bedrooms completely emptied and hoovered etc. Just several boxes/bags that H wouldn't commit on, saying his brother might want some of it.. They are both terrible (or actually good) hoarders). I found a bag of bits-out of a drawer in coffee table I could see screws, washers, batteries etc, I asked did his mum want this 'No' was their reply, so I said 'OK, I'll put it in rubbish box' brother took it off me saying 'I'll have it, there might be something useful in it'... And plonked it back on a shelf. His brother is only there til 11 today, then he's working tomorrow and going on holiday in the evening.. House exchanges on Friday... I'm not going again!!
Ah well, hoping for NSD 6 today and/or tomorrow0 -
 NSD #6 for Sept
Really hoping to get 10 this month, I think I'll be chasing that last 4 right up to last minute but here's hoping
Also rounded down my current account with 4p going to savings which are now £31.69!!
M-i-l's house finished today and H is back at work tomorrow, getting slowly back into it this week with just two days in the office... Next week he's back in full time so it was good we could get her moved this week. She'll be much better in her new place with no stairs!0 -
5am and can't sleep.. Think we might be hurtling towards mog-cats final visit to vet... Getting to point where we' re possibly keeping him going because we love him and not because his quality of life is such that it's still best for him. Think that's why I'm awake now... Discussed with H, looking at vets visit on Friday.... Lots of spoiling tomorrow/today0

Kittychick you have my sympathy on your cat, I have a dog myself and just can't imagine being without him, hug to you on having to make such a difficult decision.

Thanks Reb... I popped into vets yesterday and chatted to the receptionist. I asked which vet was on today (Friday). H and I have decided to take him in, get his new (quite shocking) symptoms looked at, and ask for the vets opinion. Mog is an old chap, now v scruffy-which i think could be a symptom of a new problem additional to kidney disease. He is on meds for his kidneys but I think fur loss could be his thyroid-he has other symptoms. Although he is a bit wobbly, struggles on occasion to jump onto my knee it doesn't seem he's in any discomfort or pain. For example two nights ago he was standing on his back legs to reach some cooked chicken and actually smacked me because I wasn't handing it over quickly enough for him.
Our thinking is that the time is getting closer but that he still has a quality of life that is such that we would feel bad giving up on him just yet. His sister had the same kidney problems and she got to a point where she wouldn't eat and gave up. He isn't anywhere near that yet.. No money saving there at all...
Although have just cashed out £13 on PA0 -
So we took him in, he's lost alot of weight since last weigh in. She agreed he could be displaying thyroid problem symptoms.. But said she was more concerned about a mass she could feel above his stomach near his ribs. In her opinion it is very likely to be cancerous. She went through what the options would then be, chemo, palliative care etc. We won't be able to make any firm decisions until he has been scanned on Monday. In her opinion she was leaning towards it bring cancer on/near lymph nodes. She said he could have chemotherapy in that case but we have ruled it out as he is an old chap. The best case scenario it seems right now us that he has cancer where she thinks and then he can have palliative care including steroids. As he s still fairly the same as he ever was just frailer we don't think we can give up on him yet... But we will be reviewing this on Monday and we will only ever do what's best for him. Feeling very shocked as I was expecting a poor diagnosis as in 'he's going downhill' but not a cancer (probable) diagnosis. On a mse note that cost us £29 to be told that and then £73 on Monday for the scan.. Followed by a probable £130 for first set of blood tests depending on what they find... We are both happy with this spending and would never not do it at this stage.. Monday might bring a different outcome0

Aw sorry to hear all that kittychick... your dear old cat certainly knows he is loved x all the best for next week's follow up vet appts etc..0

Hiding upstairs as I don't want to face what state he's left downstairs in-he had the runs yesterday and as a Persian it's not an easy problem..
Got my PA payment through yesterday, £12.64 after fees. Just waiting for it hit the bank now-I've left the 64p in my pp account though.I will have £43+ in my savings account when that goes in if I stay strong.
Got a surprise email from SB too, I messed up getting my first gift card from them and I thought I'd lost it. But had a reminder to verify it and its now going to be in my account next week (I'm guessing, said 3 working days)
Am up to 8/10 NSD's for this month... Mainly cos this week I'm v short so having to not do my usual 'I'll just nip to the shop for xyz that we don't actually needs'0 -
Just had a read through your diary, I'm sorry to hear about your cat. You are doing very well on such a low income. I just wanted to say that I think all your volunteering is lovely and I also wanted to offer you some balls of wool I have lying around, I think they are brown, cream and green but will double check. I would like to send these to you if you could make some use of them? Much better than sitting in the cupboard and doing nothing!Change the way you see things and the things you see will change0
