Hi all,
I have always owned 3 door cars. ( I am on my third 3 door corsa since I bought my first car as i find them very economical ) but am thinking of switching to a 5 door corsa.
My question is, would there be much difference cost wise from having a 5 door than a 3 door in terms of running costs- insurance, petrol, road tax?
I have tried to find a definitive answer but failing....if anyone has any first hand experience of having switched up to a 5dr please let me know

I would have thought zero to little difference, except easier to access the back seats.0

Why jot just compare the models on the Vauxhall website, it should give you an idea of any difference in fuel economy, tax etc. The only thing it wont give you is the insurance costs but tbh I doubt they'd be much of a difference, if anything I'd bet the 5 door would be slightly cheaper to insure.0

Yes, probably cheaper insurance.
At the risk of stereotyping -
3-door Corsa says boy racer
5-door Corsa says family person.0 -
About two doors, I'd say.0

Thank you. I didn't know it had that option on the Vauxhall website, will have a look. Not sure how I would compare that into actual £££ though but will give it a try0

In terms of costs, insurance fuel tax etc there is approximately 0 difference. Maybe a very marginal difference in some occasional circumstances.
It comes down to two things, 1) styling, 2) practicality.
A 5 door is much more practical. Not just because of easier access to the back seats, but 3 door cars have much bigger doors which make it trickier to get in/out of when parking. 5 door might also have a bit more headroom in the back depending on the car.On the other hand, as a driver you get a bigger window and bigger door bins...!0 -
Thanks. Unfortunately styling and practicality are less important to me than cost lol. But thanks anyway0

I can't see anywhere on the Vauxhall website where you can do this?0

I've had both 3 and 5-door cars and I can't think of any differences, cost-wise. The main advantages of each that I can see are:
3-door
More rigid body
Fewer moving parts to develop rattles
Lighter
Slightly cheaper to buy
5-door
Easier access for passengers and luggage to rear
Narrower doors as above
Easier to access or exit rear in an emergency.
For a track car, a 3-door. For everything else, a 5-door.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
