I always push  the polystyrene square to the bottom of the cube, to keep the square frame of the cube. I also fold in the corners so each one overlaps on one side and underlaps on the other, so keeping closed without needing any sellotape at all.

see here where they call it a complicated fold: https://www.youmoveme.com/articles/the-best-way-to-fold-and-tape-a-moving-box
I used to fold using the overlap method but find it looks neater not to do that.
I always used "sticky-backed tape" - not using any means that any in-transit security of inspection of the contents is lost.

Had a 'complicated fold' this week. One end almost completely pushed in exposing the RFID. Tape is a necessity.

The complicated fold is fine as long as it is taped.  Had one this week completely intact.
I just close the box up ensuring the flaps are closed tight together and square and tape along the join and edges, then close the other end up so the join is at 90 deg to the first end which gives it more rigidity,
I have received some where they are just closed up and just taped across the flaps rather than along the joins so nothing to stop it twisting and crushing.

Does anyone ever receive a cube that they can't get into?

When my husband assembles a cube for me (and the boxes I use for my eBay sales) he uses my wet glue. As a crafter I always have a bottle of wet glue to hand, it's very cheap and useful.

He stands a brick (which he has cemented onto a couple of tiles) on the box to hold the flaps down until the wet glue sets. I still go round the cube with packing tape, as mentioned above, and I wonder if it's difficult to get into.

It feels a bit "overkill", but having seen the state of some of the cubes, perhaps it's wise.

AHa !,   Now I'll know who to blame next time I spend  20 minutes trying to unravel a cube and nearly stabbing myself to death with the scissors!!!

Seriously though, a stanley knife or a craft knife will do the trick, if you have one to hand.

Cardboard boxes are strong as long as they are filled up. If there is a void in them, they will collapse no matter how you tape them.

Imho kanter need to give us more polystyrene to fill out the box.. I send valuable items on my ebay sales and use box fillers to fill up all the voids.

Amazon do it all the time with paper and they use very thin single wall cardboard.

If you receive parcels from Amazon, why not reuse their packaging for the cube?

In an earlier post I suggested perhaps using old newspaper, or cut-up magazines, if you have any. I might give that a go the next time I have a cube to post. I also have lots of bubble wrap - I might use that too.
