Thanks quoia!
I can see it makes sense to bundle them with actual post rather than make postie deliver a Pizza Hut leaflet to every address on the round. But keeping going until you run out of leaflets means that someone who gets post regularly (like us panellists) gets multiple copies and someone who rarely gets post might never get one. It's even more puzzling that in the last two cycles of Unaddressed I have had some duplicates and some never appearing. Which I guess happens when the supply has run out before
I've had any real post for them to be bundled with.
I wonder... What has the advertiser has actually paid for? Are RM actually promising to deliver a leaflet to every address in a given area or that on average everybody will get one over the course of a year?
Okay. I'll break it down.
D2D contracts are done on a weekly basis.
Within a delivery office the contract can be broken by postcode sectors.
EG if your office covered CH1,CH2,CH3 then they can split it to all or some of those postcodes but also further eg to CH1 1,CH1 2 but not CH1 3.
Depends on the item for delivery. Eg if you are selling conservatories then you dont want to leaflet all the areas with flats.
Leaflets are supplied to the DOs pre 'bundled' to each individual walk. Its not just a pile of leaflets grabbed at random.
How they are delivered varies. Some will do it by 'columns' and deliver 1/2 columns per day regardless of having mail.
Same some will do complete streets.
Others will only go to the doors they have mail for.
As for excess. The rule for managers is there should be no more than .9% returns at the end of the week.
A return is done on a Saturday declaring excess. if 1%+ then the OPs manager must authorise. He/she wont just tick it off. There will be questions to answer.
If its 5%+ then it goes to a regional director. Expect all hell to break loose with that!
So yes its been known for excess to be churned back out.
I know RM are having real issues with some of their bundling hubs(who supply delivery offices) so D2Ds are arriving late.
So you may get patchy/odd leaflet deliveries.0 -
I usually get my leaflets on a Tuesday even if I have no other mail.
I have had 3 messages about resolving queries in the last two weeks questioning which day I have received items with smarts in. They are saying the smarts indicated I had them on a different day..
I,ve had 3 resolve queries in the last two weeks stating smart indicated it had been posted outside my area. I have been doing the survey for over 3 years and use the same boxes regularly. Never had this before0 -

With Christmas coming. Collection mails are often shunted/Hubbed to different offices.
Likely this is whats flagging some up.0 -
Thanks custardy - fount of all postal-related knowledge!
So when I get the same leaflets on two consecutive days - it could be the bundling team making a mistake or it could be the DO manager deciding to send the excess back out to meet their returns target and there's no obvious way to tell. And when a highlighted one doesn't appear (even when it's been on the website 3 weeks) it could be a mistake by the bundling team (missed out my walk/round). Which is I suppose what TNS need to detect.I need to think of something new here...0 -

Wont be the bundling. They send them per walk. They arent tagged ot any address.
non delivery of a D2D could be many reasons. A door gets missed (each door usually gets 2-6 leaflets a week),a contract hasnt arrived/been cancelled etc.
Perhaps TNS put in D2Ds that arent going to arrive to test panelists.0 -
Whilst we are talking about UNaddressed Mail Survey and EXPECTED leaflets (ones that TNS provide IMAGES for)
and a query I phoned TNS about yesterday.
5 leaflets delivered - 4 IDENTICAL to the images
5th one only "99%" as per the image
A "Royal London 'Over 50s Life Cover' "
Same size, same colour, same images, same offer (£70 M&S Gift Card), same wording EXCEPT ...
... the 0800 number was different and the webpage link was "offer43" in the image but the real one had "offer44"
(I've since found another version of "the same" leaflet that I was sent a few weeks back - yet another 0800 number and for "offer38")
Anyway, I double checked with TNS regards this difference because I thought they HAD to be IDENTICAL.
And I was right.
I am to record this as a leaflet in the total count of those delivered (and NOT EXCLUDE it from the total because it's the expected image)
and NOT CONFIRM it receipt.
When it asks in a week or 2 I'll select NOT DELIVERED !

I don't know how many years ive been doing this , but my id number only has 4 digits , so its been a long time , and lately ive had A LOT of resolve queries , mine usually say "Am I sure I posted on that day and time ", as they have taken too long to be received etc , ,,,,,,,,, have had a few each week , and my posting was correct . so I don't know whats happening , had 3 last week !0 -
That's giving TNS a lot of credit for organisational ability!
I'm impressed quoia ! I would not have looked that closely but just matched the cover with the image. Sounds like the image was for an earlier version. But no obvious way to tell if TNS have the wrong image or the supplying company sent a different version of the leaflet to be bundled for RM.
Some time ago I received a leaflet which was not identical - I think it was something like the flash message on a leaflet was different from the image. I emailed TNS who said in that case it had not been delivered. I tried suggesting to them that it was because they had been provided with the wrong image and that the relevant people/organisation should be told - but TNS didn't seem to understand and gave no indication that they would pass on the information.0 -
Surprised - I received my January 18 stamps today - regular ones not Christmas ones0
