Credit cards, prestige and snobbery

Funnily enough, the last time I used my MBNA platinum card, the sales person commented on how nicely it matched the goods purchased (deposit on a silver Honda Shadow - too long til payday to use my debit card *shame*).
I do keep the MBNA card because it's lovely sparkly silver, but I regularly tart the rest of my cards around for the best deal. So I may be shallow, but not stupid!"All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0 -
i have no interest in people who are so shallow so they judge people by the plastic they're using. so i couldn't care less what they think of me!0

Remember not to confuse credit worthiness with wealth.I know nothing0

Well I can appreciate a pretty design (and am quite fond of my Cats Protection card with its cute kitten on the front!), but it in no way influences my choice of card. I just look for a good deal & other factors that suit me, but perceived 'prestige' doesn't influence my decision. I don't have any 'flashy' looking cards, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't care about trying to impress other people with my credit card - that's just a bit sad (as are the people who would judge me by my plastic...)
Plus, I do most of my shopping online, and then often pay with cash in the shops, so it's not like many people see it anyway!0 -
Thanks for all the discussion and views - it's always a laugh hearing what others have to say about a subject!0

I couldn't care less about the status etc of my cards, and I never notice what other people have either.
Mind you, I don't care about the status of my car / Hi-fi etc either!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I've got a great credit rating, £4500 limit, cheque guarantee / visa debit card for my bank, and a £1600 overdraft limit too. Yet I'm only on a Gold card.
I agree - I've got a good credit rating, a £5k limit on my Barclaycard (nothing on it, I pay it off monthly if I use it) and I have a standard card, not gold or platinum. I wouldn't want either, to be honest....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I couldn't really care less what a person who works in a shop thinks of me......0

Now I have no reason to pick these two cards, just as examples, would I use an Asda credit card in John Lewis? Probably not. Would I use a John Lewis credit card in Asda? Probably.
Why on earth not? Would it make any difference at all what some random shop assistant thought?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
