Credit cards, prestige and snobbery

Both myself and most of my friends work in sectors of the market that are very image-conscious. As much as I would love to wear jeans and a T-Shirt into work, I can't - I have to wear a well cut suit, nice watch & all the other paraphernalia that goes with it - which can include the 'right' looking credit card at rare times.
lol hilarious. You have to qualify what sector that is! :rotfl:
I worked up London in sales for years and came across alot of people who thought like that. They were usually the ones who were more full of hot air and promises than anything else as the test of time revealed. You can spot them a mile off."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
the ONLY times I pay any attention to what the card 'says' about me is in restaurants or hotels with either work colleagues, clients and (some) friends when the bill gets divvied up at the end, putting your Natwest Blue Switch card into a sea of Platinum , Gold & Black cards is likely to get you noticed !
Generally in my experience so far this 'sea' is of unattractive Amex Corporate cards...
Which I find in itself has a weird stigma attached. It's either saying "I'm only staying/eating here because the firm is paying", or "I'm only staying/eating here because this is all the firm will pay for" - which are kind of opposite ends of the spectrum but both slightly embarrassing...student100 hasn't been a student since 2007...0 -

If it had the best benefits I'd have no problem using an Asda credit card in Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, or Harrods!
I like my American Express Nectar card as I enjoy telling shopkeepers that it's a credit card when they point out that they don't participate in Nectar.0 -

Yep. I know, but unfortunately if you don't 'play the game' these people will just bypass you - but when they are your clients, colleagues and bosses this isn't a good idea! (Especially like me, when you're only at the foot of the ladder!)
This is primarily financial services & investment sectors.Savings - £18,500 @ 5.22% Average0 -

I've not had that at all, although I can understand it. We tend to use our own personal credit cards, which we then claim the relevant expenses back from the firm.Savings - £18,500 @ 5.22% Average0 -

Exactly the market I was in
Trust me.....if you're any good then your performance will do the talking.
But good luck anyway"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I think it depends on how high up you are in the organisation! No one would bat an eyelid of the directors or chairmen turned up in jeans and blazer, or paid with a Natwest Switch
As a bod recently out of Uni, and training with the company I need to walk the walk, so to speak, until my experience & performance is proven!Savings - £18,500 @ 5.22% Average0 -
Just as we were about to rubbish the whole snobbery argument...!
Recieved my Airmiles Duo in the post yesterday and I activated it this morning change my pin number on the cards and went to Sainsburys. I guessed I might as well see if the cards are working so I paid with the Silver AMEX card.
Woo, an AMEX card..... We dont see many of these here said the girl on the till. To be fair it was a slightly chav-tastic area.
So perhaps it does make a difference....... Its a sad world aint it:rolleyes:0 -
The only comments I've had about my credit card are 'Oohh that's really nice!'
It's a Capital One card, with the Smarties design! :rotfl::j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
