  • You definitely are right to cancel the DD to the old provider - although equally even if it was still live they definitely shouldn't be trying to take it anyway.

Have you already made any form of payment to the new provider? If so it may be that you've already paid the first month up front and the "standard" payments start from 1/2/18?

  • No fees paid up front - I did the calculations and the fee was actually higher than the savings on the monthly payment over the fixed rate period. I imagine it's to do with not having 'time' to set up the direct debit but it is coming out of OHs account with the same bank.

Tonight I tidied out the fridge to make room for turkey and a gazillion vegetables, and along the way made pasta carbonaraish which went down well with those who eat pasta (yuck). No plans for any more shopping, other than picking up some milk in the village co-op at the weekend.

I'm having to take myself in hand and think seriously what we really need food wise over Christmas or I'll end up going mad.

I remortgaged this year after being mortgage free for 8 years - needed the money for much needed home improvements.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • I've only remortgaged once and that was when we moved house so I don't have any useful knowledge I'm afraid.

I'm sorry you've been so unwell and glad you can drink coffee again.

  • I'm sure I could go out any buy lots more treats but actually I hate shopping and I seem to have done rather a lot of it this month. Need to tot up the damage and move money around. My expenses should be in which will help, but of course my wages dropped this month which won't.

Still no tedious, think I need to find something to replace it. Did a secret survey this morning (which has rarity value), and I keep the wheels spinning on SBs for £5 a week but that's all for side hustles at the moment.
  • I got a couple of secret surveys over the past month but nothing since. It ain't like it used to be, you know! :rotfl: Rarity Value is right.

  • I think I don't get so many because I am on the older pay rate :p

A productive day actually - boys presents are wrapped. Stone cold sober and no snacks. Obviously they look like I wrapped them drunk but they are used to that.

Broadband swapped - mine increasing to 50 next month from 13 (got the line rental back as a card/cashback last year), best they could do this time was 27 so move elsewhere sorted.

Appointments made, and minor admin sorted. I shouldn't let these things stack up.

Cash moved round, card cleared and I couldn't resist making a rounding down over payment on the new mortgage. My first ever over payment on a mortgage :j

Cleared some of the junk out of my car ahead of tomorrows service. Remembered to remove the hidden emergency money too.

New recipe was voted a hit - recipe here

I used white basmati that I pre-cooked rather than expensive and odd tasting microwave rice. Added cumin seeds too which I will do again. Finely grated the carrot which worked well.
  • Wow the recipe sounds very yummy. I love your drunk-wrapped presents :rotfl:.

I'm totally fed up with shopping. I normally don't mind it but I feel like I've been shopping every day for two weeks .

Are you feeling better now btw?

  • Dinner sounds really tasty Redo - definitely need to give that biryani a try although I won't persuade MrEH to try it - his standpoint is that carrots are not food.

Do you know I've never ever bought one of those microwave rice pouches. It's just never even occurred to me! :rotfl:
