We've stopped our Oddbox delivery Redo as the combination of the increased price and the delivery charge they have put on too meant we just couldn't justify it. I'm delighted to pay a bit extra to support a nice independent business, but when it reaches the point of being basically double what it would be to buy the same stuff in the supermarket something has to give.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I am glad it isn't just us @EssexHebridean, it has got to silly money for a tired red pepper etc.
I just hope some of my veg growing efforts come to fruition. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Good thinking humdinger, I had a look but I think it's still fixed box content? The thing I did like about A&C was I could swap mushrooms in for everything I didn't like.A rare day off, and a bit of a tidy up of the garage and garden. Broken plastic pots etc. the Daphne odora is in full bloom, and the patio smells wonderful in the early evening sun. The few pounds I frittered on bulbs in the autumn was well spent as they are flowering nicely, and I transplanted a few things around. I do like plants for free, even if I am not very good at propagating. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

We're having Riverford at the moment. No idea how it works as my mum is in charge of it, but we don't seem to get a box - she picks specific items. Very nice spring slaw recipe thing last week too.4

My problem with most of the veg box schemes is that they generally tend towards being organic - and one of the things I really liked about Oddb0x was that it was ensuring that guts of things, or wonky stuff got sold and used. I'm not in the least bit fussed about my F&V being organic and I'm certainly not willing to pay a premium price for it to be. I think I've pretty much decided to head back to the Supermarkets for all our veg now, but to prioritise buying "wonky" when it's available, and to factor in buying some more unusual stuff. Oh - and to get to the farm shop more often too as they often have locally grown stuff which is where I'd prefer to aim for.
I'd cheerfully swap mushrooms for just about anything Redo - nom!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I agree @EssexHebridean but I can't currently find a local scheme and and I do have weekly (pre paid with vouchers) stupid market delivery so a no brained really
good point @greenbee, when I used R Ford before it was on a per item rather than set box basisMy mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Lots of things germinating - peppers (a first for me) and kohl rabi today. I've done a lot of pruning which made me question why we want more land. I can't keep on top of a third of an acre, and I'm allergic to half of it as evidenced by the throbbing red blisters on my arms (ivy I think this time) despite the tablets. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

My mum's garden is making me ask the same questions... but it does depend on where the house sits in the plot. Half an acre last week was definitely too small. But would mostly have been mowing, with little option for anything else. Next house I'm looking at has 3.5 which is probably a bit much. I may need to get a couple of sheep (which isn't a problem as my cousin has a flock and is constantly trying to offload them!).2

It also depends on the topography - 1/2 an acre of steep slope v. 1 acre of flat ground is very different to manage and work in.
