  • I liked the look of the 'Heartier' packs but it had too many things that OH won't eat sadly. These are the people I went to the physical shop for but I would order again online as it has all been outstanding.

Tonight was a bit pick n mix, boys had freezer stuff, chilli made for OH and I had the last of the cold beef sprinkled with salt flakes, yum.

Sadly not. But I need to dig out what I've got (strepsils and tyrozets definitely) as it isn't feeling good. Feels like there is something stuck in my throat, so I'm worried it might be vocal cord damage. Unlikely, but after last time I'm a little paranoid.
  • I hope its just a cold, plenty of it about. I have 'crackling' ear with mine although that might be my reaction to the hideous music at contract work.

Spending day - haircut and roots done, followed by a rare trip to bulk buy wholesalers. Also bought five packs of our preferred reduced sausages in the co-op so freezer is back to half full.

DS1 lost his packed lunch, so he had the emergency pizza as soon as he got in :roll eyes:
I miss the roll eyes one.

Dinner tonight will involve mushrooms and chicken in some form. Currently feeling uninspired though.

Another SB voucher ordered, a little bit of cashback in (work expenses so free money) but still no work on tedious.

    Dinner was good:

Pan browned the chicken breasts with oil, lemon slices, salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. Added a pinch of sugar to caramelise before transferring to oven dish, and into the oven for half an hour.
Added 125ml hot water to half a pack of dried mushrooms and let them soak for 20 minutes.
Cooked quinoa with a chicken stock pot and 3 times the volume in water till it was nearly all absorbed.
Sweated fresh mushrooms and finely sliced leek in butter for a few minutes before adding the dried mushrooms and liquid, stirred for a minute then added the quinoa and its liquid.
Served diagonal slices of the chicken on top of the mushroom/quinoa mix in big pasta bowls, topped with a slice of the lemon and a dribble of oil and lemon dressing.
Would make it again but it needs more green - either herbs stirring through at the end or serving with some oil, lemon and garlic tossed broccoli. Maybe a splash of alcohol into the fresh mushroom bit. Could use couscous instead (but reduce the cooking time and liquid volume). (Expensive but I bought for something specific) dried mushrooms not essential - use more fresh ones, and add a little stock once they are cooked through.
  • Yum, total yum.

Sounds fabulous :D We had reheated cottage pie and frozen peas and sweetcorn. And wine. After the kids fell asleep. Long slow car journey up today - M25 was solid all afternoon so took nearly 4 hours from M3 J3 instead of 3. Kids were incredibly well behaved. Must remember to tell their parents that...
  • Yum! Makes me wish I liked 'shrooms!
  • I love mushrooms and that dish sounds lush.

  • It reminded me that good food is possible without huge amounts of effort. Actively cooking and prepping was only a few minutes - less time that it would have taken to walk down for a takeaway and certainly cheaper even with the expensive dried mushrooms.

A non working day so food shopping this morning. Butter has gone up another few pence. I think I resent the regular creep up more than I would a big one off increase. Wonky mushrooms better value than the super 6 ones so they will be a major feature of the next few days eating. The family pack peppers were all green - yuck. Nipped into MrM to use a £5 voucher and got their wonky peppers - 10 pack, £1.18! Nice mix of red and yellow so pleased with that.

    Update
    • Savings - Pay day for us both, so money moved round into the various pots. A good frugal October meant we both had cash left at the end of the month which has now moved to savings.
    • Personal spends - Frittered and ordered two jumpers today. I shouldn't be allowed on the internet when I am cold. I am banned from buying more jumpers, but this has been amended to 'not buying black or grey jumpers' :o
    • Remortgage progress - bank asked for evidence which has now been sent so back to waiting for progress

Not done any festive shopping at all. Not even thought about it yet. Probably should.
