Some idiot keyed my hire car

I think you'll find that most of those 48 hours have already expired.

Can you prove the damage happened after your hire time ran out?0

Luckily I was still home when they came to collect a few minutes ago - elderly man. I went out to greet him at my bin where the keys were placed underneath as agreed, and he just said 'thanks see you' - I walked after him to do the 'inspection' however he said "oh don't worry about all that, see you" then got in the car and drove off without taking a look at the paperwork or the key scratch?
Unsure whether to be concerned or not !0 -

I think I would be, these things usually come back to bite some time later when you find your deposit hasn't been returned.
They'll love this damage, they'll not get it fixed and then keep charging anyone who rents it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I don't think they will be able too - its a pretty deep scratch the length of the drivers door.
They 'held' £200 on my debit card but I believe this has already been returned. Although it isn't shown on my statement but I don't think a holding amount would be anyway.
Their conditions of rental and my contract state that on return of the vehicle, Avis representative will inspect the vehicle and highlight any new damage - the customer will be required to sign for this in agreement.
I believe I have a lot on my side should this progress. Hopefully though, this will be the last I hear of it...0 -
I have a colleague who also had a vehicle that was not collected at the agreed time (A Friday evening) by another large rental company. When they picked the car up (Monday morning) it had been damaged.
As I recall he didn't have much of an issue getting them to recongnise it was their problem.0 -
I'm sure you will be held liable. You have no proof of the day and time of the damage.0
