Thank you CB for sharing these articles.
I used to justify my drinking with the saying about waking up and that's the best you're going to feel all day.
However, I had a prolonged period of not drinking and was waking up feeling great.
What I love about not drinking is that I usually in the morning, and before I even try to move my head try to remember how much I drank last night and how I expect to feel.
I did that this morning and remembered I hadn't drunk anything last night.
What a great feeling.

Morning all, 3/21 for me today.
Still mulling over people's thoughts on the two articles from the Guardian I posted, I confess I thought the first one wasn't so bad and hats off to her for at least trying to tackle it? ... My own experience is that it takes a few goes to give up a bad habit (especially an addictive one), but I would have said I have actually succeeded in moderating, just that it requires constant vigilance and accountability of the sort offered by this thread. By the sound of it others (eg Honey Bear) have read loads of similar articles before and perhaps that's why they evoke a certain weariness, but I think anything that suggests people should try to cut down is a start and I could certainly put myself in her shoes. Just my two bobs' worth.

Thanks cathy. I'd agree that anyone that makes cutting down desirable is helpful. I'm not knocking Dry January but for me just going back to drinking to excess straight afterwards isn't the answer.
Interesting to listen to Tom Kerridge on the radio this morning promoting his new programme/book on weightloss. Although, I believe, the programme is more balanced (follows NHS guidelines) he chose to give up carbs and booze completely. I'll watch the programme in case there are any recipes I fancy but I was wondering whether there was more to his lifestyle change than just losing weight.
No drinking for me today.
