I would really like to know what other people on the group think about this. I plan to make myself some chocolate sauce to go with some ice cream. The chocolate sauce recipe involves a small amount of liquor (port or marsala, or similar). Would I be right in thinking that if I put the liquor in I can't really then say my day has been AF? ... The sauce is heated, but not long enough to burn off all the alcohol. What do people think? I can always omit the liquor but am genuinely curious to know how others on the group feel about things like this. It's not quite like most cooking with wine eg say coq au vin, because in that instance the food cooks for ages and most of the alcohol will be burned off.

I'd bung it in and don't give it a second thought. My reasoning behind it is that alcohol burns off exceptionally quickly with any kind of heat, and evaporates slightly more slowly but completely. In other words you'll get the flavour but not the alcohol.

I've been eating boozy chocolates ever since I gave up alcohol and I don't count them at all. Trying to get !!!!!! on them will feel you leaving very, very sick from all the sugar in them a very long time before you even feel lightheaded. If I thought for one moment they were harming me I wouldn't touch them, I can assure you.

This very subject came up here, yesterday, though. The chocolates we eat with brandy, gin or cognac in them are soft centered, with the booze incorporated in the truffle centre. OH has been given a box of liqueur chocolates which he squirrelled away on the basis that they have liquid centres and I therefore can't have them. Fair enough.

    30/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

Thanks Honey Bear - if you and Maman both think that then I'm happy to treat that as a sort of official decree :) In fact I made the choccy sauce last night and couldn't even taste the marsala - it just tasted like a very rich chocolate sauce (and was delicious). The truffles you have been eating sound delicious too, I must say.

I'm glad we're in agreement HB although I think your DH might have an ulterior motive in squirreling away his chocolates!;)

I opened the cherry liqueurs last night cathy and thought of you.:D

    I didn't fancy a drink last night either.

    16 AFDs please Shaggy.

15/15 achieved tonight - very chuffed to have made it to target especially at this time of year. Let’s all have a happy and healthy 2018
  • 15/14

I wouldn't count sweets with alcohol as non AF day. As HB says I think you might die before you got drunk.

I have a cold and wouldnt mind staying in tommorow but we have family plans and would be bad form not to go so imagine this is my last AF day of 2017.

Happy new year all. And thank you. xxx
