Well I just tried putting my data into the 'Family Saver' page.

It came up with £908 for my 5800kWh usage.

Considering I'm currently on their Welcome Home 1yr fix, that's going to cost me £790 for the year.

So I think I'll sit tight for now!

I'm not going to worry about the alleged 'not fixed' until they do actually put the price up.

I'm on the Welcome Home "fixed" tariff.

If they put the price up, I'll challenge it all the way.

It seems they are a bunch of Shysters.

The 'Family Saver' is a con.

An average user (3100 kWh/yr) would pay £504 for the year.

They would receive £27.72p in interest payments. An equivalent interest rate of 5.5% - perhaps.

Customers would have to sign up to their T&Cs which allow them to change the terms of the deal at any time.

"13.5 We can change any aspect of the Eversmart Family Saver Club (including its rate and how it's
calculated), or stop or withdraw offering it entirely, at any time."

If they can propose to change their guaranteed rate on the Welcome Home tariff to a variable rate I would be surprised if they didn't.

    Update:
If they add interest on their interest payments each month the total return will rise to nearly £30 (AER 6%)

I joined Ever-Smart back in May 2018, they had no track record for customer services but they did have the cheapest tariff for me so I thought I might as well give them a try. Six months down the line and I couldn’t be happier, the price is right and I haven't had much reason to contact them, however when I did they responded relatively quickly.

Ever-Smart has started a “Family Saver Club” and it seems like a reasonable deal, you pay one years energy up front and in return they pay you 1% interest on the outstanding balance. I’m not very quick at jumping into things so I’ve been waiting for some feed back on this from others. So, Ever-Smart Energy gets the thumbs up from me.

I agree with everything you have said, and my experience with them has been the same so far. But from the conversation that I had with them today, they are going to hike up our prices in spite of being on fixed tariffs. I am sitting tight for the time being, and am considering writing to Ofgem when (and if) I get a letter advising me of the tariff increase.

I've already contacted OFGEM but the 'formal' route is to complain to Eversmart first (and wait while they ignore you) and then, when you've decided that you've reached a deadlock position, to refer the case to the Energy Ombudsman.

Still, I think it would be useful for as many people as possible to contact OFGEM direct.

  • Spoke to Eversmart Energy today and I was told that the fixed prices that I was given (and emailed in the "Welcome Pack") in July 2018 were "incorrect" and that although I am on what was incorrectly called a Fixed Tariff that was guaranteed for a year, the rates would go up later this month as the prices in the market are going up.

Things are going to get messy
  • Just a short note to add that the date from which the increase rates are to come into effect (even for those on fixed tariffs) is 26 November 2018.

I haven't had 30 days notice so I expect it doesn't apply to me :)
