  • Well done to all those with keys and keep going to all those trying!

Got everything through from our solicitors on saturday, transferred our exchange deposit accross and requested a completion date of the 6th of November, although top of the chain wants this friday!

This is starting to get very real! Going to be a stressful month! GLA!
  • JB_1982 - congratulations! Hope the move has gone well.

Natbag - we started packing a while ago too. I would rather be ahead of myself than stressing like mad trying to get everything done last minute :)

Jaglad111 - our buyer has agreed to our requested completion date of 6th November, so we may be completing on the same day

I know our buyer agreed to our requested completion date and has emailed his solicitors, but I don't think they've forwarded this info to our solicitor yet. I'm hoping they will do it today, so that we can move things forward. I think everything is pretty much ready to go, so I'm hoping we will be exchanging today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Thank you to everyone who posts on here :)

Good luck and speedy exchanges to everyone this week.

Been a little bit of a lurker here, but thought I'd jump in and share my progress as we purchase our first home...

09/09/17 - AIP accepted with Halifax
11/09/17 - Offer made on house, rejected, counter offer accepted
    14/09/17 - Solicitors instructed
06/10/17 - Meet with Halifax to progress Mortgage application
    12/10/17 - Valuation carried out
21/10/17 - Mortgage offer sent to solicitors

Finding the process fairly (and surprisingly) straight forward thus far, but have been frustrated (and again fairly surprised) at the lack of communication between vendor, agent and solicitors. Been a few hold ups on the vendors end that we weren't told about for a couple of weeks even when we were chasing (solicitors have only just started searches as vendor has only just instructed his solicitor- for good reasons, though). These have been ironed out.

So for us now, it's the waiting game- for the solicitors to get their bit done and for my Dad to complete on the sale of his property and purchase of his new one. Very fortunate to be benefitting from a hand onto the property ladder from Dad. Would have taken me a few more years to save with the cost of rent and house prices in Sussex! Feel we've made fairly decent progress, though, all be it a little slower than some of the other folks here.

Best of luck to everyone else going through the process!

Welcome synavm, fingers crossed your good progress continues!

I've had an email from the broker saying they'll check the lender has received the solicitor's letter today. Also had a chasing phone call from the vendor's estate agent, saying she's been struggling to get hold of my solicitor for an update... I've found him pretty easy to get hold of (although he was off sick a couple of days last week) so either she's not trying hard enough or he's avoiding her :rotfl:

I'll ring her back at lunchtime. I used to drop everything any time anyone rang me but I found myself thinking about house things ALL THE TIME rather than getting on with work :o so now I only make phone calls like that at lunchtime... especially when my update is essentially 'we're still waiting to hear about the mortgage...'
  • I had contact on Thursday stating the Vendors solicitors were to begin drawing up a contract. Fingers crossed this can all be done by the end of the month :)

Everyone agrees to the 30th for completion in my chain (yay i've filled 2 more boxes to celebrate) but we can't exchange today because a) banks like to have it the same day of the week to same day of the week so Mon - Mon for us...
Someone may be telling you porkies. Never heard that before, and I've bought 7 (buying #8). There may be something that makes it slightly easier with paperwork (not that I can think of anything), but it's not a usual requirement as far as I know. Perhaps it's one bank that works like that and I've not used them before... hmm.
2024 wins: *must start comping again!*
  • Natbag we are in a similar position - hopefully completing on Friday and exchanging some time this week! We are getting movers with a packing service because I just can't face doing it. :o

Just sorted a home insurance quote so we are ready to exchange once this landscaping issue is sorted out - and completing anyway even if it's not because a month's rent is far more expensive than the slim chance that the council tells us we have to plant this hedge.

I just want this week to be over!!
  • Hi all

I've been following this site for months and have posted a couple of times. Today 6 weeks after selling our house and living with family we have finally completed our purchase and move on Wednesday!! It took 10 weeks from offer to completion to sell our house but our purchase has definitely been the most stressful as we brought of family. The massive lessons I have learnt is to not buy from family. It's been a real testing time!! Luckily we are now at the end of our house selling/buying journey and will now look forward to our new house. Good luck and wishing you speedy exchanges/completes. Hopefully not planning on visiting this feed anytime again soon lol!!
  • Survey came back with a few issues. OH says they're minor and we can deal. I see damp in a report and freak out. So after a weekend of lots of research on what the stuff in the report means/costs, I think we still want to go ahead, though the surveyor down-valued the property slightly.
We've asked the seller if they would be willing to knock a little off the price (just 1k), and we're just waiting to hear back so we can confirm to the mortgage lender.
Will be paying for searches today so the solicitor can start those.
I can see why they call this one of the most stressful things you can do.
