To those mentioning rentals and van sizes- we sold early last month and had planned to move into rental but couldn’t get a rental after weeks of looking- ended up moving in with family. We have pets that made it so much harder.
We hired a man and van who had a 3.5 tonne Luton and I panicked it wouldn’t be big enough for our 3 bed house. We ended up getting rid of so much stuff. Turned out we could’ve fitted a lot more in. We had 2 large sofas, double bed, king size bed, living room and bedroom furniture plus a load of bags and boxes and still had loads of room. We got rid of all white goods and dining table set as they’d seen better days but to be honest it all would’ve fit but the guy I used was a pro at packing the van, I probably would’ve have fit it all in if I’d packed it myself.
you must be psychic! ive just booked 75sqft of storage unit for a small 1 bed cottage ...... can you look into your crystal ball and tell me if my stuff will fit ? ;)

We got a 40ft on Monday and have so far taken two full SUV loads in there - about 20 large boxes, couple of pieces of furniture and we’ve only filled about 1/3. Tricky part is utilising the height rather! I think you’ll be absolutely fine though.

I love you for saying this! I’ve been panicking but we have similar contents to you so I’m hoping we’re fine. We did the same 18 months ago and have only really gained a washing machine and some chairs since but I’m still worried 😂

There needs to be a 'how much can you fit in a Luton van' thread 😂

In other news.... Well, lack thereof! Heard zero from any of the  three buyers Inc mine.... Solicitors and agents can't get hold of any of them. I've got a slightly sinking feeling 😂🤦‍♀️😬
  • So after a row with our agent yesterday, them bringing round flowers and a long apology email, today he calls 🙄 to say our buyer needs us to take out a £350 indemnity insurance... my reply was.... Can I get this straight... we are breaking the chain for our buyers, so they can move in quickly, and us go into at least a 6 month rental in a much smaller property, which will cost us £400 extra a month plus two sets of removals, chaos for our your children, not to mention stress and anxiety for the duration
    AND
    THEY
    WANT
    US
    TO
    PAY
    WHAT????!!!!
sometimes I think I’m living in a parallel universe!!!!
Some people just don’t understand how the world works. I imagine they’re the same people that see something advertised for free and expect it to be delivered to them.
You sum it up absolutely perfectly!

Just catching up @BountyBlink I can see you have decided to break the chain, what on earth do the buyers need an indemnity insurance policy of that value for at this stage - one was needed on both our sale and purchase, sale was to cover missing building regs for log burner and cost £30 (ish) & our seller provided a bespoke one for us relating to building regs for an extension from the 90’s which was a bit more expensive but was still under £100 - the solicitor added about £50 for arranging.... both were done whilst still at enquires stage and not when we were ready for exchange!
Going into temp accommodation isn’t easy but at least you will still have your own space/privacy - we have been with family & although it’s gone great, no upsets I am so ready for us to be in our own routine again 😂
It does secure your sale and allow that stress to pass knowing that you can move in to a new home without having to start the process again, we definitely did the right thing so I am sure you will feel the same once you get to exchange point on your purchase (which may feel like it’s ages away but will be worth the wait!) I feel like the weeks are flying by at the moment so hopefully you will feel the same when you get to the rental. Good Luck 😊
Sorry it’s taken me ages to get back to you! Oh we have had an absolute day if it... I say “we” like I’m talking about my  husband and i but alas I’m the control centre for this bloomin move and he it seems just nods and falls asleep on the sofa.

Anyway, going back to business! So... the indemnity insurance is for 2 separate 1970’s extensions thankfully our agent hasn’t mentioned it again, today, on his THREE calls 😩🤦🏻‍♀️ At one point on one of the calls I felt like shouting out “Show me the money” because I think he is already spending it in his head... had to shoot him down again today, after he was unhelpfully getting way ahead of himself (again) told him, “let’s just get to the point that our solicitor hears from our buyer saying they are ready to exchange, then we can search and find a rental, because right now, rentals are coming on and then showing “let agreed” within hours” that’s stopped his chattering...

He said “I haven’t had a day off for a while so sorry to say I’m off tomorrow but will be back on it all next week” and I replied “oh yay, I get a day off from you” the pause down the phone was deafening 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I think we are going to have to ask for exchange next week and completion in 7 weeks time which is just before expiration of their mortgage offer... I’m sure that will go Down like a lead balloon with our agent!

Quick question... if we are in temp accommodation like air bnb how we will be able to apply for a new mortgage if we buy something else? Given we won’t be on the voters roll? This has been really worrying me!!!

In our case we applied for the mortgage before we moved out of the property we just sold and are now in an Airbnb until we complete on our purchase on the 19 March.

Thankfully my buyers agreed to keep receiving my post for me and I will go there one a week to pick it up . I haven’t officially changed my address on things like my drivers licence/bank etc  because I don’t have a permanent address at the moment . Will do it as soon as I move in on the 19 .

It does feel strange and I can’t say I’ve been enjoying this holiday let experience . The place is very clean and tidy but I don’t really want to be here and I’m really looking forward to completion day
