ThriftyGinger said:Huge sympathy @katie91_2 - that's absolutely awful.Just had my homebuyers report back, finally - there's nothing major in there. I asked whether the sellers had had their electrics and gas safety certificates to hand and... no, they've not had them checked, because apparently all the electrics and the boiler were new 2 years ago when they moved in so they didn't feel the need. I've had to ask them to go and do it. !!!!!!, their lack of due diligence all the way through, between this and the problems with the lease extension, has really held everything up. We're nearing the five month mark since the offer and I would have liked to have been in before Christmas!Debt free Feb 2021 🎉4

Finally I can update my timeline with some positive news!Offer made early June, mortgage applied for on 11th June. Nearly 6 months on what was supposed to be a chain free ‘quick sale’. After lots of messing around by sols, estate agent and possibly the vendor, 5 proposed exchange dates over 4 months, we finally exchanged yesterday with completion on Monday!I have stressed myself out so much over the past 6 months and hoping that now all will be well. Mortgage monies are with solicitor and so I’m hoping nothing will go wrong now...still won’t relax until I have the keys!
Cried yesterday at the thought of my 1 year old having a garden, following 9 months and a lockdown living in one room at my mums flat!
Thanks to this forum- it’s been cathartic. Fingers crossed everyone gets the news they are waiting for soon.9 -
Joining this thread! I'm buying with OH, FTBs currently in rented flat.
(snip the saga)
Early September got 15% deposit together and OH's job is stable Re-offered on former house as it was still on market, offer accepted, solicitor instructed! Sellers say they're moving in with family once they sell so we are buying CHAIN FREE
26/10/2020 mortgage approved .... again ... a year after we first got it approved!
30/10/2020 - engaged surveyor for homebuyer's report for a truly obscene price ...
12/11/2020 - Survey booked for 20/11/2020. As long as that's all OK solicitor says we should be able to exchange on the 4th and complete on the 11th December.
17/11/2020 - searches and queries back. No obvious problems!20/11/2020 - Homebuyer's report survey done23/11/2020 - draft contract and deeds through from solicitor24/11/2020 - Homebuyer's report back, no showstopping issues! Hooray!28/11/2020 - returned all signed documents. Sellers conveyancers are now saying they don't want to exchange on a Friday because they're usually very busy Fridays and it might not go through ... eyeroll ... so will transfer deposit to my sol tomorrow, give them a call to confirm they have it, and ask if we can try and exchange Weds 2nd Dec. Anyone reading this do NOT use Muve, or any online cheap conveyancing warehouse. Pure rubbish.Good news though, the sellers have offered to sell us their old washer/drier (saves us buying one immediately!)Come on Monday! All this waiting ... makes me and OH worried every time the phone rings that something's gone wrong.Mortgage - £274,000 to pay

Would anyone going through a house sale advise how you are notified that you are going to exchange contracts? All parties in our chain have agreed a completion date, but no-one has contacted my solicitor to ask about an exchange date yet. Do I get a date for this from the solicitor or could I just get a call out of the blue from them asking if I want to exchange the same day? We are due to complete later this week.0

New to this thread, we are waiting to exchange and feel like we have been for weeks and weeks. Everyone in the chain is ready except for the people we are buying from who seem to have the worlds slowest solicitors. They have so far taken 4 weeks to answer some enquiries from our solicitor (just said they will get to it in due course) and are still yet to send a couple more enquiries on their purchase (which we were told they were submitting 3 weeks ago. Any suggestions for speeding things up appreciated. Our buyers are expecting a baby at the end of December so for their sake, we would really like to complete before this. The most annoying thing is that 2 months ago they were chasing us but clearly they were no further ahead!£2012 in 2012 Challenge #232 : £561.29/£20121
