  • FTB here! So my timeline is as follows:-
    • Offer accepted on property- 3rd July
    • Solicitors instructed- 3rd July
    • Full Mortgage approved- 19th August
    • Homebuyers survey- 9th September
    • Land searches received- 11th September
    • Draft contracts from vendors sent to my solicitors-12th September
    • Enquiries sent and received: 2nd October (sent) 19th October (received)
So I'm having a completely frustrating time with my solicitors, I will not name them on here but I would definitely not use them again.  I constantly spend my week chasing my solicitor for any update and receive very little response.  It has got to the point that I am receiving updates from the seller.  I have only ever spoken to my solicitor once who reluctantly answered the phone and that was in late July!  Is this usual in conveyancing? Honestly, I'm tearing my hair out as all enquiries have been answered and I just need the contract to sign and exchange/completion dates to confirm. Aaaargh.

Same here our contract was supposed to have been sent on the 22nd September, however we've not received it so I have asked numerous times for it to be resent and no response! This is all we are waiting for now to exchange! So frustrating!

we have been good to go since May the second house in chain has been ready since early Aug and just waiting for the top house to catch up, as far as we know it’s an empty house. They have all refused to move to temp accommodation to let us move out of the chain as well. I’m out of ideas and guess I can do nothing but wait. But it’s still the most frustrating thing in the world as we are at the bottom of chain and seem to not being told anything.
I know exactly what you mean, we're also bottom of the chain, ready to go, both me and my solicitor have to keep chasing the rest of the chain and seem to just get back deafening silence. Our vendor's solicitor didn't respond to the final enquiries and multiple chasing emails for over 3 weeks! At least an acknowledgement would be nice. We also had proposed 30th October, but no one has responded to say yes or no...so that is starting to look unlikely. So frustrating!
Finally got a response from the estate agent today (well, only when I phoned up to chase the email I sent two days ago, this seems to be the best way to get anything as if I phone up without warning I'm just told she doesn't know, she'll get back to me, and then never does) who has now told me that our sellers still don't have a mortgage offer for their purchase! Why they couldn't have told me this a week ago when the completion date was proposed I don't know. The estate agent also said "I know that you're very keen" in a way that implied that I was being a nuisance, which has really !!!!!! me off. At the moment I'm only chasing a couple of times a week, it's not like I'm phoning or emailing incessantly (in fact, I'd been feeling like I hadn't been chasing regularly enough), and I'm not getting any answers to anything and feel completely in the dark about what's going on. We have been waiting since March and were incredibly patient all throughout lockdown and the months beyond whilst the seller looked for a house. I don't think wanting some basic, clear information and updates on the state of the chain so that we can try and plan is being unreasonable. Surely that's the job of a sales progressor? This process is wearing me down.

I wish my solicitors would email documents/letters rather than posting them. We were supposed to exchange/complete last week but couldn’t as we have to provide more information for an indemnity policy. OH rang them on Tuesday and was told they’d written to us about it on Monday. If they’d emailed it we could have replied that evening.
  • Finally exchanged today (offer accepted March 10th)!! Completion tomorrow. So excited to finally be getting over the line.

Congratulations! Hoping to join you tomorrow with an exchange. Everyone confirmed they were ready but a solicitor in the chain had to leave the office this afternoon so now they have all agreed tomorrow. Completion on 5 November.

Thank you. I hope all goes well for you tomorrow and the rest of your time flies by without issue. It’s a stressful old time to be buying.
