Putting this here for my own records as much as anything:
Offer accepted 20/6
Solicitor contacted (but told not to start work) 22/6
Mortgage Offer received 9/7
Chain completed: 27/8
Solicitor instructed to start searches: 31/8
All searches and responses to enquiries received 14/10
Now we are just waiting on the buyers further up the chain who didn't instruct a solicitor until the start of October.

impatient2020 said:we have been good to go since May the second house in chain has been ready since early Aug and just waiting for the top house to catch up, as far as we know it’s an empty house. They have all refused to move to temp accommodation to let us move out of the chain as well. I’m out of ideas and guess I can do nothing but wait. But it’s still the most frustrating thing in the world as we are at the bottom of chain and seem to not being told anything.0

At least I know we aren’t the only ones Jadek.I am tired of having carrots dangled then silence. We have 1 month left in our flat then have to get out so that’s an added stress. The estate agent has told us “you’ll be in by summer and enjoying the garden”. Then it was “you’ll be in by beginning of Oct, maybe middle worst case”. Now we have no idea.I’m trying not to focus on the move as this has caused me to have mental health issues but it’s hard, just want out of the limbo.0

Joining in for sanity please. We are FTB (well partner owned a house a couple of decades ago but remembers nothing!) so feel like we have no idea what we are doing but things are happening quite fast now & the end is maybe in sight.
Offer accepted 10/09
Solicitor instructed 13/09
Memo of sale received 14/09
Full mortgage application 15/09
First docs from sellers' solicitors received 21/09
Mortgage offer issued 28/09
Amended mortgage offer issued (increased fixed term) 02/10 but didn't arrive until 10/10
Building survey 20/10 (took ages to sort as v busy here & now gone quiet so not confirmed it happened!)
Solicitor's report & contracts received (& read) 20/10
All paperwork sorted for LISA to be withdrawn (for completion, not needed for exchange deposit) 20/10
Sellers wanted to exchange on friday which seemed a bit unlikely but we were willing to try our best (always clear we'd need to be satisfied with the survey report before we could proceed). Hopefully things are getting there to be ready somewhere next week. The land registry transfer had an error so waiting for the corrected one to come through so we can get everything signed & back to solicitors ready in hopes survey doesn't raise any real concerns and we are good to go (once I successfully chase the surveyor for an update on when report will be ready).

2 weeks later silence again and solicitor told telling me today he hasn’t heard anything and will keep chasing. Looks like the 30th Oct will be a no go.We heard through estate agent it’s one last search that’s holding exchange up, over 3 weeks ago this was requested (although we initially were told these were requested 5 weeks ago!).How on Earth are people moving quickly at the moment?we have been good to go since May the second house in chain has been ready since early Aug and just waiting for the top house to catch up, as far as we know it’s an empty house. I was told at 10.30 am today that everyone was ready. Waited by the phone all day, chasing a couple of times then get a call at 5 pm saying buyer's solicitor is waiting for lender enquiries. Over to another day.0

I have the feeling our solicitors are taking the !!!!!! now. I called today for an update and was told that they had received responses from the vendors but that they wouldn’t be reviewed for 5 to 10 days. What are other peoples turnaround times?!0

Yours is not the only purchase/sale they are dealing with. The best you can hope for is that they deal with each set of responses/enquiries in the order they arrive, until closer to exchange/completion at which point, you hope they will prioritise you0 -

Solicitors are a nightmare. Maybe they take on too many cases, I don’t know, but they cause delay after delay and it’s so frustrating!!!We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.1
