We were supposed to have completed in April but Covid scuppered our plans

I’m now in this boat so thought I’d join in for some moral support as we all try and get in our new homes!
My timeline so far....
2/6 - accepted offer from cash buyer on our property
5/6 - solicitor instructed
9/6 - our offer on house we’re purchasing was accepted!
12/6 - full mortgage application submitted to Halifax via a broker
16/6 - mortgage accepted (yay)
We’re now at that stage I think where nothing much seems to happen for a while. I know our solicitor has instructed the searches on our new place.I hope the searches don’t take too long either. Hope you get an answer soon too!
I’m so inpatient I just can’t wait to move now. Finally moving out of a flat into a house with a garden for the first time. My little boy can’t wait! We’re a bit undecided on a survey. The property we’re buying is 10yrs old and visibly still looks pretty new inside and out. From reading up on what the home buyers survey actually covers it didn’t seem to cover much. It said they don’t even move furniture to check things and don’t check pipes, electrics etc. Mortgage lender only did a desktop valuation survey. Not sure if anyone has any thoughts to whether a home buyer survey is worth it when buying a relatively new property? I feel like it’s not telling me anything I can’t already see. My husband is also a builder and my father in law an insurance surveyor and they both don’t see anything untoward. So I’m not sure whether to do one or not 🤷🏻♀️0 -

kasqueak said:Yes so far so good. We had originally sold back in Jan but then it all fell through due to the lockdown (We hadn’t found a new place) so pretty pleased to be back in the position of moving again.I hope the searches don’t take too long either. Hope you get an answer soon too!

I originally wasn't going to get a survey of any kind done as I wanted to save the money, but then I took a lot of people's advice on here and decided that I was safer in doing so. In the grand scheme of things, what's a couple of hundred pound in making sure your property isn't subsiding against the hundreds of £'s we are about to invest?!?! It pays off believe me! So glad I got mine as I now know everything that is faulty with the property and I can begin to fix them allWithout any offence meant, any buyer would be a fool to invest such a large amount of money without performing safety checks first (survey). But fingers crossed whatever you decide to do, your house is without any hiccups!!

Hoping to complete today. Think the exchange was happening yesterday, but we'll see soon enough.
Think the offer was back in Feb. Can't remember now. Seems to have taken an age though.1 -
SO, we were waiting to exchange on our sale, and just waiting for the chain above to catch up. Last weekend I found out on the local grapevine that our buyers have had an offer accepted on another property just round the corner! So far, after many phone callers, emails and texts they have not had the decency or good manners to contact either our solicitors or our estate agent to explain anything! We’ve had to put our house back on the market. I’m devastated, upset and very very annoyed.0
