    Can I join in?

    -Offer accepted 13th April
    - Solicitor instructed on the 14th April.
-Initial paperwork received from solicitor 20th April
    -Paperwork returned 23rd April
-Surveyor instructed for homebuyers survey 23rd April (date of survey booked for 3rd May)
-Survey cancelled because the estate agent couldn't get the house keys 5 minutes down the road to the property!! Rebooked for a week later (10th May)
-Draft contracts arrived at solicitor and property/fittings form sent to me 8th May
-Survey and valuation completed 10th May
    -Homebuyers report received 11th May
    -Mortgage offer confirmed!! 17th May
-Local Searches back from Solicitor 21st May

Not a lot has happened after this. I contacted my solicitor last week to ask what was left to be done / how long before exchange/ completion and she just stated 'I am merely waiting to receive some replies to final enquiries from the seller’s solicitors and I will then invite you to sign the Contract.' which is not overly helpful.

I'm not in a chain and the property is already vacant so i'm hoping it won't drag on for another month or so...

16 weeks since our offer was accepted. 8 weeks since all our paperwork was completed and our contracts were signed, and still not exchanged and no dates for when we will exchange let alone complete.

I don't think I will ever move again once we're in this house!

We've also discovered a mystery window that you can see on the exterior bathroom wall, when standing in the garden, but there's no window on that wall inside the bathroom?

So now I need to figure out how to word the question of where does that window go? I'm guessing I need to ask my solicitor to ask our vendor, rather than the EA?

I was so optimistic when we started this process, I thought we'd be in the house by now, but still just sitting and waiting for the top of the chain to do whatever it is they need to do at this point.

I feel you on this! We put our offer in 13 weeks ago. All searches and enquiries done, we've signed the contracts and paid the deposit weeks ago. We are FTBs at the bottom of the chain and it's a chain of 3. The top of the chain has a very slow solicitor. We chased our solicitor last week but have had no response. So bored of waiting :(

We're FTB at the bottom of a chain of 3 too. It was a chain of 4 but the woman at the top of the chain kept making excuses for not finding a property and then refused to vacate, so their buyer pulled out and we're waiting for them to find somewhere else but I haven't had an update on that for about 2-3 weeks now. I'm hoping I'll get an update from the EA this week.

All the solicitors have been great but the EA's aren't talking to them so each time I get an update from one I have to tell the other :wall:
  • So just wondering if anyone has done a remortgage and it hasn't completed on time. Mine was meant to complete on Friday then I have an email from the solicitors saying they are awaiting a redemption statement still. I have had this email a few times and each time sent it to my Mortgage Advisor. He said it was all fine and needed to be requested from the new lender from our current lender but on the 14th May when I emailed it last was too early! Hebsaid he would chase on the 25th and not to worry.

Well now I am worried that I am going to be stung with 2 mortgage payments or even worse not be able to complete as we are releasing some equity in the house.

When contacting my advisor he said he has chased today and will chase again tomorrow and has told the new lenders to get a move on!

This is our first remortgage so not sure of the outcome. Has anyone experienced this and did it cost them? Surly having a mortgage advisor that we are paying for should have sorted this for us so we wouldn't have to pay extra??

  • Joining in on the stress! FTB, hating every minute of this process so far. I'm not a fan of waiting OR stress so this whole thing is torture for me!

    Timeline so far:

    16/03: Offer accepted on house
    16/03: Mortgage application submitted
20/03: Tesco Bank request more paperwork due to fixed term contract of employment
    22/03: AIP
    26/03: Solicitor instructed
29/03: Solicitor rejected from Tesco panel - withdraw services
    05/04: Survey carried out
    06/04: Instruct new panel-approved solicitor
09/04: Receive survey - enquire with EA regarding building regs approval for work done to house.

Which leads us to today...over 3 weeks in and not even an official mortgage offer back yet :(

Does anybody have experience with gaining retrospective building regs approval? Does it delay the process much?

So glad I am not alone in the horrible process of constant worry...

    Update in week 12...

Had formal mortgage offer, searches back with no problems, building regs problems sorted, inquiries answered, appointment to sign contract and declaration of trust next week.

Got a bit excited and thought that meant exchange was imminent - nope, solicitor said not to bother getting deposit to her just yet. ARGH

I cannot understand why such a straight forward purchase (no chain, we are FTB, seller already in new house so nothing to buy, house vacant...) is looking like its going to take at the very minimum 14 weeks?!!

    I need a gin.

They sure drag their feet. It took me 4 months to exchange. No chain my end, no chain their end.

Doesn't help when every document sent by the solicitor is dated 1-2 weeks ago. I guess they like all documents to sit around the office for a few weeks before firing them out to Royal Mail.

I have found that as well! Receiving letters dated 2 weeks ago, sent by 2nd class post. It's frustrated me to the point of tears on more than one occasion! If they take 4 months for us they will definitely be getting some angry comments from me...

I see this too, our documents all dated a week or so before we get them
