I did cynically wonder that and mentioned it to the EA - I said if there is a problem we would want to fix it not back out (unless unfixable) and that might mean a renegotiation on price but we would rather know now and them be upfront with it. We would still want the house. He assures me he is certain it's not that and he thinks they just wobbled cos of mothers imminent demise (which is fair and I fully sympathise having had to deal with my mother slipping away over a few weeks - its not nice - terribly stressful etc) and the stress got to them. He says he is a honourable man (and actually he is a rare breed and very POSH and much as he isn't my personal cup of tea I believe him - doesn't like calling hubby by his first name and wants to call him by his RAF rank cos that's how he was brought up to respect titles etc (we politely declined).) I think so far he has calmed the waters. We shall see. Mortgage valuation should be being organised Monday so that might help them.

I also thought the same initially. But then again, no one selling a house would expect the buyers not to have a survey so they would know its coming.

Possibly spooked as am getting a specialist heritage survey not a normal rics one. But we are dong it in order to know how to look after the house in the future more than looking for problems. I shall just have to bite my nails and hope all is well soon.

My buyers surveyor who surveyed my house was a specialist in heritage properties and listed buildings and also a structural engineer which panicked me a bit. He was really good though and even explained the history of various odd beams. He said the house is about 1650 rather than 1700 like I thought, showed me some that had been replaced in 1800s and some that had come from other buildings. Makes me not want move! :rotfl:

Still nervous about the results though...

We last heard from our solicitor a week ago to say all enquiries are done and we are ready to exchange as long as everyone in the chain is ready. Chased this morning but they have not responded. We paid our deposit to them 3 weeks ago. I really hate not knowing what's going on

Casually dipping my toe in here:

Ftb recieved mortgage offer in the post yesterday. We instructed solicitors on 3/5/18. Update as of today, waiting on local search coming back (any day now) and a couple of enquiries. (Submitted to vendors solicitor 21/5/18) then off to sign contracts. We've told the solicitors we need a completion date before the 21/7/18 as my partners away working for the summer so it's either then or September. Hopefully that's enough motivation for everyone involved to move things along.

Supposed to exchange and complete today, at the vendor's suggestion.

First thing this morning we got a message to say the vendor hadn't signed the contract and it might happen Monday.

    Fuming.

So last Thursday I get an email from the estate agents' "sales progressor" who tells me that there's an investment buyer at the bottom of the chain who is insisting that we exchange the next day in order to complete today. If not, toys are thrown out of pram - apparently. Cue a day off work to rush in to solicitors, sign contracts ready for exchange. Midday Friday comes and I get a message telling me that our buyers are not in a position exchange for one reason or another but "it still may happen on Monday". Cue a friends van on Sunday morning to get rid of a sofa and coffee table from our living room because it's imminent, right?
Various noises made by sales progressor throughout the week saying it might happen today or tomorrow (on more than one day) but we absolutely MUST exchange on Friday to be able to complete the following Friday. Yesterday morning I get an email saying all contracts are in place, final queries have been asked and satisfied it's happening today we're just waiting for the investor at the bottom of the chain to supply his deposit, it will be in at the end of the day today (Thursday) at the latest. Be ready to exchange. End of the day comes, no deposit. It's delayed, will be in first thing, them we can go.
Today I chase to see where we are and am told the investor (the guy who had previously threatened to pull out if exchange didn't happen the previous Friday) hasn't sent his deposit, he's in a rural area of France with very poor mobile coverage so it's next to impossible to get hold of him. Around 2-3pm he's managed to make himself contactable and has paid but it's too late in the day for it to clear and so would we mind exchanging with a zero deposit? On the advice of my solicitor, I decline and call the removals firm to stand them down.
30 minutes later I get an email saying that we'll go for it again on Monday with a view to complete on Friday.
    I can't wait for Monday

I empathise. We were originally supposed to exchange on 30.04, and complete the Friday of that week. We were then told everything would have to move back a week, which was fine, then when that completion date fell through too, we found out that someone further up the chain hadn’t even received their mortgage offer! Then everything happened very quickly and suddenly, and it’s all over now, but it’s been a very frustrating month!
