After 5 months we was hoping to exchange on Monday this week but our silly solicitors can not add up or know the law regarding the higher rate stamp duty on an extra property, today I got a correct bill at 3.3pm today and telling me they want to exchange today, the bank said it's too late to transfer via chaps so I hope it's all goes well tomorrow, total nightmare and stress0

Good luck Maxwell, I hope exchange happens for you soon.
And Good Luck to anyone else in the process of selling or buying. It’ll be worth it in the end! Feeling of relief now we’ve reached exchange is immense! Hope to hear more good news for all of you soon.0 -
Thank you! Some really good points. I think I'll get my dad to have another more thorough look and then if he spots anything he's not sure about we'll either get a builder in (friend and neighbor who has completely renovated a house on the same street; same age, same type of problems) or get a more substantial survey.
Might also ask the next door neighbours what their survey found - the bought the semi attached to ours a few years ago but it was in a much worse condition having not been touched for years! They might have a better idea what to look for as they've completely gutted, renovated and extended the house!
Can't wait to get in and get started! Feeling very impatient now!0 -
We completed our sale yesterday and moved out. Worldly possessions in store, now just drumming our fingers waiting for the chain to move on our purchase. There are ‘outstanding enquiries’ at the top of the chain - no indication of what they are, how long a response will take, how quickly the solicitor will report after recieving them. We are in that horrible limbo land of knowing it could be exchange today, or it might be another fortnight/month/eternity!0

Janey, congrats on completing on your sale......but commiserations on having to put your stuff into storage. Hopefully it will only be for a short while
From the moment we decided to go for the repo we knew our stuff would be in storage for a few months in order to get the house liveable. Doesn't make it any more palatable though and as soon as we've changed the locks and set up a room to camp out in, we'll be heading back to the storage facility to collect not only the basics (small sofa, kettle, crockery, cutlery, bedding - we're getting a new bed), but also some of my more treasured items that I hate being in storage!
Fingers crossed for those hoping to exchange today.......Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

I've been off this topic all week, so congrats to all exchangees and completees!
Unfortunately I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel for myself, there are still 2 to 4 outstanding queries from my solicitor (the number fluctuates according to who I speak to)I'm so tired of everything I don't even stress about it anymore, I'm basically in a no-s**t-given mood. And I'm sort of giving in to the idea of having to spend a month on friend's sofas

Great news Phoebe! Roll on this time next week and I'll be doing the happy dance too (I hope so anyway, after our nightmare buyer!)
Hope the actual moving bit goes ok. Congratulations on your new !!!55356;!!!57312;0 -
Aliliva, big supportive hugs. This time last week I thought our chain had collapsed, things seem to be so very up and down with house buying, there's so much you can't control however uncomfortable that makes us feel.0

Congratulations to Phoebe (lost track of who I've already said it to
) and 22cuddles :j :j
((((((Allivliva and all those still waiting))))))) Deep breaths folks...
Moving on to my 'things to do between exchange and completion' list now  Sorted removals and house insurance as soon as I heard yesterday, and have just booked and paid for an LPG delivery (we don't have mains gas).
Rather worryingly, the solicitor just rang and said 'I need to ask you a question but I can't tell you why til I've asked it - have you ever lived in Gloucester?' Er, no - apparently someone with my exact name, including unusually-spelled middle name, went bankrupt there
Shouldn't they have done this type of check *before* exchange?! What if they find something now that means they take the mortgage away?!
I was just starting to relax but now there's a whole host of other things to worry aboutAlready fretting that the gas tanker won't be able to get through the gate (as far as I know it's not locked, but it might well be), or that something else stupid will happen
Quite glad we've not got long before completion - only 10 days now  :eek:0
