  • Arrrghhh! I thought the chain had all agreed on a completion date of 28th July, and we would be exchanging this week. The top of chain who said they could do wc 26th July or week after have now backtracked and said they can do 29th July earliest and that will be them kicking and screaming!

These are the people who took 8 weeks to decide to go into rented, so the chain missed stamp duty. These are also the people who originally said they could do any day wc 26th July. We can't do the wc 2nd August as I change roles and we just cant get any holiday for weeks.

We had put a deposit down of (£400) for removals due to everyone agreeing the 28th and we already had the day booked off so it was sorted. Now we will lose the deposit, try to figure out childcare for our 1 year old which also means I won't see her all day on my bday and all our plans and pre-booked activities for that day will have to be cancelled.

so fed up of losing money because of the top of chain. They are going into rented but can't get in until Aug so have to put their stuff into storage so I honestly don't understand why 1 day makes such a difference to them. They are also living in their son property he owns rent free!

  • Day 2 of missing completion due to Santander deciding at the very last minute to withhold mortgage funds and pass my mortgage application (approved 4 months ago) back to the underwriters. I'm about to be served a completion notice by the seller. Stress levels are through the roof and i'm now off work as it's making me sick.

There are some major works that need doing to the building, and they wanted proof of affordability for the works, even though the amount per leaseholder isn't huge (roughly £1000 per flat). It's been with them since Friday, and they have known about this for a few weeks now. Crazy to start looking into it 1 day before completion! Anyway, it looks like we are slowly creeping to a conclusion and i'll complete tomorrow now.

Why does trying to buy a house have to be so stressful. We’ve always exchanged and completed the same day previously (not through choice but because of circumstance) - I hope you get it sorted and will be able to forget all of the anxiety when you are in your new home x
  • No news for us and our EA is off today! Hoping for some movement this week x

Good luck to everyone for this week!

Finger and toes crossed we should be hoping to exchange the end of this week. We are hopefully just waiting on some final enquiries to be answered by the top of the chain.

You sound like you are in the same situation as us. We are bottom of the chain and there are two outstanding enquiries at the top.

hoping beyond belief that they are resolved this week so we can exchange, Hope it works out for you too…

this is too stressful isn’t it!!

Thanks. Amazingly I ended up completing with minutes to spare! So happy right now. What a rollercoaster of a few days. From thinking it was all off on Friday, then the weekend stewing things over, to actually completing today. My first ever purchase!
Congratulations 👏 always nice to hear positive outcomes 😁 x

So fed up of chasing to try and get an exchange/completion date. It’s now been almost a week of trying to get one, calling their EA and my solicitor but their solicitors just won’t get back with a date.
They could be struggling to find a removals company hence why they cant come back with a date or their chain is struggling etc. The more in the chain the longer it takes for responses to come back.
