Just when we thought we'd agreed dates for our completion, top of the chain has realised England vs Scotland in the footy is on the 18th and wants a delay!! 😫🤬
:open_mouth: just to be sure I understood right: they want to delay completion because of a football match?? Are they serious??? I'm so sorry for you!! sounds like they want to create additional stress for a really trivial reason!!! Can't you suggest the day before instead of delaying, then?

So we are due to complete on Friday 🎉 our solicitor has said she will contact me for authority to exchange today .... but havnt heard from her yet. Is it normal to do that at any point in the day?

@laura_lau Yep, couldn't believe it when was told! Everyone else in the chain is fine for the 18th, match doesn't even kick off until 8pm, so would be in the house by the time it starts!

Found out last week that the sellers house they were buying, for whatever reason they have lost it :( So they are back to house hunting again. Worst thing is this apparently happened a few weeks back,  I don't really understand why I wasn't told sooner. They are relocating to a different part of the country and EA told me they can only view at weekends. But have told the EA they might look to move into rented (break the chain - I guess its called).

All my searches are done, survey is done, mortgage is approved. A few outstanding enquires which was the only reason I contacted the EA last week was to try chase them, only to be told about the sellers position changing.

I'm not in a major rush, but I was hoping to have this done by end of August, which I thought was fairly realistic as offer was accepted mid April. I hope the sellers do start considering renting and looking at that. Not sure if I should start pestering the EA more on timelines of this. Was going to give until end of this week for the enquires.

Hello everyone, hope this day brings some good progress to all! I'm so sorry to see so many other people are having lots of stress with solicitors not being bothered at all about doing their job in a timely manner. I can totally sympathise, and I'm still experiencing it. We've been waiting from my seller's solicitor to answer to our suggestion of dates for 10 days now. Suggested exchange date has passed, and suggested completion would have been tomorrow. I just heard from my solicitor, she said if the seller's solicitor answers soon, we should be able to exchange this week and complete next week, but I have the feeling she is occasionally chasing, and certainly not stalking the other solicitor (as she should, in my opinion!). So, I'm calling the estate agent again, waiting for them to call me back. Buying a house really feels like a full time job!!!
I feel your pain, I've asked several times if we can start taking dates, I've outlined the fact of rental notice everything and nothing. I called today for an update, got told she's looking at the file (again) spoke to ea yesterday and he knows we really want to push for next week. I know we're close and it shouldn't take another month but handing on our notice is a big risk with no dates set!
Yes, I have the very same problem, I can't hand in my notice until I have exchanged at least, and my tenancy agreement expires next month, so my landlord might reach out at any moment to agree for another year, and then I will have to avoid him until I have exchanged, which might turn out to be very awkward! I really hope next week is the week for both of us!!!
I was a landlord for many years and I can tell you that you don’t need to worry at all - the law favours the tenant.
So doesn’t matter your tenancy is coming to end, you will simply go on a monthly rolling contract. If your landlord wants to give you notice he/she will have to give you 6 months notice due to Covid rules. So you are fine from that date for another 6 months. Just don’t sign the new contract.

That is ridiculous. I'd be fuming!

As BountyBlink said, once your fixed contract comes to an end, you'll just go onto a 30 day rolling contract. I've not rented for almost 2 years now, due to moving into the In-Laws to save for a deposit, but was in my rented house for 5 years, 4 of which were on a rolling contract. Then give 30 days notice when you want to move out and away you go.

@BountyBlink and @oneilld3 Thank you, that's very reassuring! At least I can stop stressing about that!
I spoke with the EA and they said the seller's solicitor is still "catching up" with enquiries since their IT system has been down 3 days this week and they haven't yet looked into the "additional enquiries" my solicitor sent. I got a bit angry this time, as my solicitor hasn't sent any additional enquiries for at least 2 months! What they are calling "additional enquiries" is to agree on dates!! So I told her that there are no additional enquiries and I have no idea what they are talking about and we have been waiting for a while to agree on dates, and one of them is actually already in the past now and that is pretty ridiculous we have to wait weeks just for that! Oh, another thing, the EA I was dealing with and who called me last Thursday, has now left the business, so my case is being handled by someone else. Which certainly doesn't help!
