Furniture Dents in Carpets

I was amazed to remove marks caused by a heavy bookcase that had been in place for 3 years by placing a wet towel over the indents and then ironing towel with a steam iron. It was unbelievable how they almost disappeared before my eyes. I then ruffled the pile with my fingers a bit. And over the few weeks since I did it, they have now vanished altogether.

Yes that's right Strepsy. And Liz, it's perfectly normal for this to happen. Furniture is heavy & carpet is made of fibres that will squash when such a heavy weight is placed on it. It isn't a fault in the carpet.
It's possible to buy little caps to fit on the feet of furniture to help stop this happening, particularly useful if the furniture has castors, as they can leave deep indentations. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Ok, thanks for that. I'd heard about it but never tried. Shall give it a whirl.0

Not sure this saves money but its something I do. If you decide to move your furniture around and are left with dents in the carpet from where the furniture used to stand, simply place ice cubes in the dents and leave overnight, the carpet will spring back up.0

You can also place a damp teatowel over the dent and iron over the top. Works instantly0

That sounds quicker, knowing me I'd end up burning the carpet though so I'll stick with the ice cubes.0

Good tips! :T I've added this thread to the main thread on dents in carpet to keep the suggestions together.
