Spark Energy and Opos Limit problem

  • In May 2016 we moved to our new property with our British Gas supplier handling the move.

At some stage Spark Energy hijacked our account.

At no stage have we ever wanted or been Spark Energy suppliers.

British Gas carried our account over and everything was fine.

Then after repeated attempts by Spark Energy to force us to pay a bill for an apparent ghost account they hid from British Gas, we won an Ombudsman Case against Spark Energy.

Spark Energy admitted liability and we were happy; now in 2018 we are again being plagued by Spark Energy.

In September 2018 I received a letter from a Meg Darling, then Head of Customer Relations explaining that it was all an error and she was to sort this out finally and remove us from the Spark Energy system.

But alas this was again to prove impossible.

At no stage ever have we wanted a Spark Energy account, and Spark Energy cannot produce any paperwork showing that we signed up for any account.

We are British Gas customers for some 40 years standing, and do not wish to associate with these apparent cowboys, who have been heavily fined by the energy regulators over their business practices.

It seems that Spark Energy are worse than cockroaches and apparently could survive a nuclear winter, they ignore all letters and persist in this.

Spark Energy needs to address this now.
  • I have a final bill from Spark for nearly £300 based on wrong meter readings that they claim that I sent to them which is untrue. The property was empty and on the market for three months and the actual meter readings showed that no gas was used and only 44 units of electricity consumed. Trying to get through to Spark takes up to an hour - they say they will look into it and them do nothing. I get frequent calls and texts fro Opos but they basically called me a liar when I explained the situation. Both companies should be investigated in my opinion for the way they run their operations.
  • Opos flooding my phone with text messages. I approached Spark Energy few months back as well but no response. If I owe you why didnt you send me an invoice in the first place. I am not comfortable speaking to a third party and give my personal details in the name of verification.
    Please help.

  • I had the similar issue with Spark energy. I rented a property and they was contracted by the agency.. when i moved in made the change but took 2 weeks.. Spark did the final bill for it £142 for 14 days electricity based on wrong meter reading! I sent the detail for them to correct the bill also paid the amount which covered the used electricity. ( have a bank statement for prove it). This happened 2 years ago! Today got a mail from Opos - i have open balance on Spark Energy. How can i do it right? This company did not done anything in the last 2 years even not contacted with me:( The meter reading was wrong because they used a different serial number of meter.... what can i do now?
  • Hey All

Had a similar issue, moved out of the property mid Sep this year, paid final direct debit and after final meter reads was told it would pretty much cover remaining, had multiple problems with Spark with incorrect bills.... stating would be £50 monthly direct debit and been whacked with a bill at the end more than your monthly payments.

had Opos ringing and texting with an unhelpful agent, do not appreciate being chased by a debt collector less that a month after leaving a property while im working for £70+ ! Trying to get through to Spark and every time i phone instantly transferred to Opos Limited unable to phone spark from my mobile (ridiculous practice). had to get through a Opos agent to speak to a spark agent. the £70+ bill was incorrect and after reanalysis dropped down to £30+. (fair enough on the spark agent at this time who was friendly and professional most likely not able to wipe the bill) not exactly what you want when money is low and unplanned/ incorrect bills get sent to you. Not a massive amount of money compared to others on this thread but the principle is what counts.....

Deeply unsatisfied with the handling of the matter. Would not recommend, hope they will fix processes.
  • Hello,

I decided to do some digging as was rather worried when I received a debt collector letter from Opos, asking for £42.63. It's a scary letter to receive as I hadn't heard anything from Spark first.
I can't even contact them either as I have no account number, since I never had the previous account details. I never contacted Spark before I switched to my current provider, Outfox, and I'm very worried and stressed about owing money to a company that doesn't even seem to exist anymore.
Can anyone help me with providing advice on how I can resolve this issue?
I feel I maybe don't owe money at all, and this is an old outstanding bill. But can't find answers anywhere!
    Please help!

I had a random text from Opos offering me £450 off a debt. I figured, this was an error, so I gave Opos a call and they tried the whole security questions bit and I figured it's not worth giving them my info so I terminated the call.

So, I do a little digging and I had in fact dealt with Opos in 2017 when Spark accidentally gave them my contact details for a debt owed by the previous tenant at an address I used to rent.
Somehow it took four months to sort out that the account number wasn't me, but they eventually did.

Opos are literally back texting me about the same debt, same reference, same incorrect account.

I mean, I don't live at that address any more, my credit score is great. Should I just ignore them or should I be on the offensive?
Is there a case for a data protection breach and harrassment?
This is demonsteably not my debt. I'm just the unlucky person they can contact cause they were given my details
