Wednesday i have a bottle of old fashioned Airwick behind our cat's enclosed litter tray, and another tucked under one of the dining room cupboards...they seem to keep any whiffs at bay.

No, the air fresheners we use work, but I wanted a non-chemical spray instead. I thought that I will keep the chemical one upstairs for the cat litter tray and bathroom, but only use a natural one downstairs. We are downstairs most of time apart from at night anyway.:)

Today we marked out where the kitchen units will be in our new house. We are keeping them to a (hopefully) sensible minimum as the room will also be a dining and sitting room and we need space for sofas to chill with the kids for as long as they want to.

It will be a change as we currently have a very large kitchen, but that is more a function of the space that was available, than because of culinary requirements.

I also cleaned a piece of silver that has desperately needed a clean for about 2 years. It took 20 mins. Why did I prevaricate so long???

  • Haven't Kondoed in a while - tired and sore - but had a burst of energy recently. Clothing done, again and to giant bags off to Sally Ann plus some costume jewellery I never wear.
Livingoom - got rid of kimono and room looks much bigger for it
Also found small handbook copy of Bible in CS for 99p and will reread. Previously had digital version but having the print copy has reenergised me to get rid of other books. Weird eh?
    Looking ahead
  • I added one dress and two of my husband's shirts to the charity bag.

Thought I'd swing by again. I'm still in the doldrums about clearing and packing. The problem is - confession time - I'm not sure I want to move with OH. When OH gets his new job will I be going with him? If I absolutely knew one way or the other I could KM and pack accordingly, but I don't.
If we split up it would make sense to keep the doubles of things; one set for him, one set for me. But if we stay together, do I really need it want extraneous stuff?

Anyway. My problem that I need to address. Overwhelmed.

However, in my quest for KMing, if anyone out there has random wool and needs projects, how about knitting balaclavas, hats and scarves etc for the Mission to Seafarers ( used to be Mission to Seamen)?

My family's church used to knit a lot for them. They were on the coast so could see for themselves the absolutely frozen tropical sailors who had nothing to protect them from the North Sea. The sailors had little, if any , time on shore, no English, no local currency ( wages sent straight home to their families), wouldn't have known where to shop anyway....
The poor b*GG*rs were desperately grateful for warm clothing.
  • Oh gosh, Fen - that's a big decision. Really hope you can decide what's right for you, and it may make sense not to throw out as much as you might otherwise do, at least at the moment. Big hugs, and be kind to yourself.

Thank you for the link to the Mission to Seafarers.

V sorry to hear you're feeling overwhelmed Fen. There's lots of support on the relationships board on Mumsnet if you would like to talk things through.

I'm going through all my paperwork before putting it back in my office. I need to thin it out as the files I archive into are looking a bit full with the addition of another three years' worth of documents.

Thank you Polly and Catshark. I just wanted to write down what was going on. I think the principles of KM are fab: it's about positive choices rather than negative discarding. It's me that's in a tizzy, not KM.
There are days when I'd like nothing better than to KM OH ( I bet a lot of us on here would like to do that, especially on the " I didn't realize you wanted me to do that/ but you do it so much better/ it's footie time" days  )
  • I first heard about the 'bullet journal' on this thread and it's been revolutionary. I just use a notebook, but it means everything is in one place.

Despite reading the book, I never actually set out a goal or picture of what I wanted to achieve with KM. I think it just felt too overwhelming at the outset. Now I'm much further on and I've reached a definite 'click' point with a couple of rooms, I think I may try and review this and set some aims.

I definitely think that clearing my home has helped to clear my mind.
