Hope DH is ok Slinky, I agree with you about the insurance companies. I've just had to fill in all the details of a burglary we had in the house 4 years ago, hopefully this is the last time.
Sounds very productive Karmacat, hope it wasn't too traumatic.0 -

Well done Karma Cat and I hope your DH is OK Slinky.
We Kondoed half the carpets in the new house into the garage today. We're going to amass stuff there and then get a skip when we have enough. I have found someone who may want the kitchen, which would be good."Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0 -
Good luck with the carpets catshark. We thought we were doing OK with doing up our new house until it came to taking up the lounge carpet. What should have been a 10 minutes job took 2 of us 3 hours each as the underlay had disintegrated, some stuck to the floor, the rest of it turned powdery. Fortunately a workman we had in told us about a long handled floor scraper he'd seen in Jewson's and OH nipped down and bought it. Dreadful stuff old underlay.Make £2025 in 2025

Yes good luck from me too. First house I bought after oh and I split had 3 other carpets plus wads of newspaper under the dining room top carpet and 2of them were old foam backs which have turned to dust. My DD and I filled 20 black sacks with newspaper and grey dust. All that clutter used to be money0

My loft is empty. Today I lifted all the Xmas Dec's and 7 ft tree from the eaves in the garage, which was heavy going, and I think when it comes time to put them back I'll have to rethink, as I don't want to rely on others to get them down, and up for that matter.
I cleaned all the windows in and out on Monday ,and today I've rearranged the furniture in the living room to make room for the tree, so I cleaned all the skirting and doors, dusted the cornice etc.
I put up the outside lights, and the wreath in kitchen, and conservatory. Just the tree to do which will be done with dgson on Sunday in time for hubby's birthday.
I just hope I don't get too emotional in front of dgson, today was bad enough.
I'm going to do another kondo of Xmas Dec's when I decide what's needed for tree.
Slinky I hope your hubby is ok.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
I bought some right bargains at charity shops yesterday so I went through my wardrobe and put it all in a beautiful order.:A
This meant I found some more things to get rid of:
Two pairs of PJ bottoms that do not fit well, you need them to be cosy.
Pair of black leggings with a hole in the side. I wore them into London the other day! I hope my dress covered it.:p
Socks with a huge hole on the bottom. I don't know what I do with my clothes.
Lots of carpy plastic coat hangers.
Rubbish and recycling all out too.0 -
I'm really feeling the benefits of KM this season. I'm embarassed to admit that in previous years sometimes I haven't put any decorations up because the house was a mess and it felt wrong to hang decorations on top of it all. This year everything was easy to locate - cards in one box, gift tags etc in another, and the decs themselves were reduced significantly last year.
Because I've got rid of so many clothes, I realised I've got two completely empty drawers and that's where presents are being stored before wrapping - so I won't (I hope) be doing that thing where I can't find something that I knew I bought, and end up buying something else.
I'm pretty sure that as I come to put things on the tree, a few more will be released to the universe to brighten someone else's Christmas! The whole thing feels much less stressful this year, I've even written my cards which is a first - usually it's the night before last posting date!
Anyone else finding it easier after KM?Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
opposite to me polly, re the tree. I have a lovely skandi dowel tree and KM`d tree ornaments, enough lovely ones left for the tree, I kept all the really nice room ornaments and a few of the bucilla christmas room hangers, the ones I made 10 years ago. Putting everything out would take one hour but I am not doing it this year. I will be out 2 separate days over that week, choosing to come back to sleep in my own bed, in peace and with a calm house and nothing to take down. Its a one-off but goes with the few nice treats I bought for myself and the lovely dvds that I am looking forward to
My weight is staying off, phew and it is slower now but thankfully steady. I notice trousers becoming looser, so they will be sorted in a couple of months and my wardrobe looks loads better with finer tops hanging in a neat row. These tops no longer `cling` where they shouldn`t, hence the all enveloping tops have gone
A trip out shortly, I have 4 bedding sets to recycle, 2 poly/cotton and 2 flannel sets. I have decided that I am staying with cozee home for the foreseeable. I have a nice empty space in my airing cupboard now
Me too Polly, this KM is benefiting me no end now0 -
Polly and Kittie, I'm so glad that this process is proving helpful to you. :-)
We're having a slightly odd time. We are in the very fortunate position of being able to keep our house until we move into the new one and this is giving us time to really think about the way we want to live our life once we've moved.
I won't inflict our thought processes on you, but I'm beginning to realise that I don't really care about much of what we own at all.
There are about 4 bits of furniture that I really, really, want to take. Some books, a few clothes, my paintings, a few antiques. Plus loads of photo books and 20 box files of all the artwork and doodles my kids have produced!
I think we may be moving into adult minimalism, but with loads of sofas for curling up together and big tables for socialising.
I don't try to inflict my own oddness on the kids though, so we also travel with a gazillion soft toys and the entire back catalogue of Nintendo... :rotfl:
Odd, interesting, scary, exciting times.:eek::)"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0
