  • Fen, live in the moment. I know I appear to have everything ahead of me but I haven`t, in fact all I have is uncertainty and the only certainty is from the allotment seasonality and again that is circadian, a cycle, round and round. When I was younger, I always had this strange feeling, as though I was striving ahead for something, I didn`t know what and it did not make for happy contentedness. One day I started living in the moment and that is when things changed and I became content. This is what enabled me to cope with what life threw at me, three close deaths in two years and sudden singledom after never being alone for the whole of my life

I think first you need to get excited about the move about following wherever this turn on the road takes you, the new friends you will meet, the fact that you will not be stuck in a rut. Re sorting your home prior to moving, take one room at a time and maybe start with a small room, or the airing cupboard. Only leave stuff there that you would happily pack into boxes to move with you, if you are not sure, then put that item in a special bag or trolley or box and leave it out of sight for a few days and by then you will know. It is baby steps fen, how a goat gets up a mountain

Or how you eat an elephant - a teaspoon at a time!!
Helping DH in the garden today - he's making new compost bins from some pallets so I've been clearing out all the plastic bags we use for wood ash and wood chippings that are passed on to people who keep chickens or animals. All stored nicely in my mum's old galvanised dustbin!!
Scrubbed my sprayhood for my boat and pegged it on the line and gave it a good rinse with the hose. Its nearly dry so brought indoors and draped over the bannister to dry off completely before I roll it up ready for next season.
Lots of 'little' jobs being done at the moment - don't you seem to find that the actual doing of them is always a lot quicker than the keep thinking about them IYKWIM?
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

I have had to kondo some more money today, my electric over blanket has packed up and it is so amazing for my aches and pains and when I get cold after my nocturnal wanderings (an aging bladder and IBS), I just had to replace it, money has also had to be earmarked to pay for mending my computer when I get the call to say it is ready, if there has to be a 3rd thing, please let it be an inexpensive one to fix/replace:(

Did anyone else watch last night's Grand Designs with the 'minimalist' houses? One quite massive place had various 'hidden' rooms and there was no clutter in sight. Anywhere. The walls were a series of panels which opened out into other rooms or cupboards. The cupboard which concealed the TV would have warmed MK's heart. Two shelves of joy sparking family photos on show in tre recess above the TV. Didn't see the knicker drawers though LOL.
  • tomorrow I am getting rid of a karcher steam cleaner and all the accessories, haven`t used it in two years and don`t want it cluttering my utility any more. I am also getting rid of a nespresso machine and zillions of pods, I only drank them because I had them in and I actually dislike all of them, they are putting me right off coffee and I don`t want that to happen because I love a particular organic coffee that I grind myself from beans

Nothing much else today, I am liking the revamped labelled storage boxes. Shorter ones in a shallower cupboard, three rows wide and several boxes high. Same width and length in the fridge and bigger ones in a normal sized cupboard. I decided yesterday that there was no point in keeping stored foodstuffs that I no longer use, eg goji berries. Lol, I wait until my neighbours are out before quickly loading the car, I think they are wondering why I am removing so much stuff.

Charis, thank you, I must find that online!

We completed on a house purchase today. The house was chosen because of the concepts of minimalism, MK and keeping only what really matters to you (i.e. It's small, but v centrally located!). When we move in, we will have to practise what I preach! I am both excited and absolutely terrified...

Yes, that place was a modern art museum, not a home! :rotfl: I'm all for minimalism but imagine being a kid in a house like that - you'd be afraid to do anything besides watch tv! I much preferred the Iranian-inspired house with its beautiful pond & traditional Persian rugs to die for!

I've enjoyed kondoing so far and still have lots to go but I feel a home needs to feel cosy & lived in otherwise you're just living in a show house. Then again, having grown up in mostly new-build houses, I've developed a soft spot for period homes with a bit of character, history & wonky bits.

Looking back, my favourite house we ever had as a kid was a 1930's terraced house with a bright yellow kitchen & a Victorian tiled black & white bathroom which I never understood why I appreciated so much at the time. It was the room proportions & history I felt the building had, I think, surrounded by very old trees & a well-established garden.

    Great news, catshark :)

Today I plan on taking 2 large bags of Summer-y clothes to the local cash for clothes place, as it is close to Sains, where I shall be shopping, so I can combine the journeys :) I have removed warm items and things for layering up and shall put them in the homeless collection another day, along with some hotel and airline toiletries. That's 2 large bags out from my under-the-stairs cupboard, making it easier to tidy up (it seems to have got very messy under there just recently!)
