Bad news about the crops Lyn . I haven't done as much sowing and growing this tear as I knew things were going to be busy . It has been the best lavender year I remember , the herbs are pretty self sufficient and have done well . Parsley and chives are the gift that keeps on giving and little watering has taken place . it's treat em mean and keep em keen here !

I hope all of you get some rain and respite from the heat . It's been dry and cloudy here today and not too warm . Sending the magic sleep dust to all .

I've not done much cooking and had quiche with tomatoes and spinach earlier quick and not much faffing . My appetite tends to lessen in hot weather so I go for quick and easy otherwise I'd forget to eat .

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • I made myself steam loads of different veg to go with supper this evening and made gravy too, I'd intended to do cold meat, jacket and salad but we both had enough of that kind of meal so steamed veg, new potatoes and a veg kiev from the freezer and it was absolutely delicious. We both feel so much better for having had a proper meal!

Hope those suffering from the heat have had at least some cooling breezes . It's still overcast here , not very sunny and coolish . I think the sun will be back by tomorrow .

Poor Lu must be pining for some nice green grazing Lainey . The farms here are out this weekend bringing in the harvest so they wont want the rain back just yet . It's odd to think we're almost to August , where has this year gone ?

Today is planning for the week ahead , some of the dreaded ironing and Poldark later . Still deciding what to eat I think I need Nigel Slater to come and feed me !

Returning to the thread still feels strange with Candlelight missing . So if she ever reads the forums I'm sending love, light and strength her way and always remembered in the daily candle x

Whatever you're all doing enjoy the day . Will you be sitting on the Pickles at all these hols Lyn ?

  • Depends on what's needed Polly, Zebra still has his place at nursery until he starts school in September and Nell is on her summer break now and I know she wants some time with them and is planning on taking both out separately for a day out to give the other one a day with mum at home. I usually only get called if one of them is poorly and the nursery won't take them but Ruthie has asked if I'll have Zebra for most of the half term holiday in October which will be fine as we'll be so much closer if the move has happened by then.

Oh Polly, I know what you mean about Candlelight, keep hoping that one day...........meanwhile if by chance she does check in sending a big dose of love and best wishes.
Just back from seeing Lu, she had a smear of blood at the top of her neck, I couldnt see a scratch or anything so can only presume that a horsefly got her at some point today, blooming horrible things, hate them.
Her paddock is very bare with no green on it all, the yard owner puts hay in it first thing and she has a big hay net ready for her when she comes in to her stable at night and I can’t see that she is dropping condition at all. Luckily for me she is a good doer and holds on to her weight, bit like her Mum really :rotfl:
  • Hellooooooo, I am here, keeping up with all your adventures.

Thank you Polly for continuing the thread, and thank you all for thinking of me, it is good to be back.

Himself is as well as he can be, although he doesn't like this hot weather at all, and anything we need to do has to be done early in the morning.

I had my cataract removed last October, and I now look at the world differently. It has made such a difference and I can read books again. My other eye will need doing eventually.

DGD is still living with us (3 years now) but we all get on really well and she is 25 now.

I know Lyn hopes to be moving shortly, I am sure you will be happy Lyn being closer to the boys and of course your girls.

Polly I know life is difficult for you and your DD some of the time, but you always seem to be upbeat, and haven't we lit a few candles over the years, mainly lavender?

Lainey, you sound so happy to have your "girl" in your life, just the tonic you needed. I hope the news is good for your SIL when the tests are completed on the offending tissue. I think that is almost worse than the operation. I received mine on Christmas Eve (7 years ago now), best present I ever received.

I have been in touch with Mrs TA from the daily thread because I was so concerned for her and her DH. Wouldn't you think with all the doctors her husband sees, someone could come up with a solution to him not being able to digest food.

It is lovely to be back, sleep tight all xx
  • You're back, you're back, you're back !!! Hello, I've missed you so much, I'm sooooooo happy to see you post again my dear friend, welcome home!

We're moving close to Nell and closer to Ruthie by some way than we are here and the boys are growing like young weeds. Ezra starts school in September, where has the time gone?

Dear Polly was only asking about you this afternoon oh what a lovely surprise, you've made me such a happy Lyn xxx.

Oh dear Candlelight, how lovely to hear from you again, that really has made my day.
I am so pleased that having the cataract removed has made such a difference to your life and that Himself is well, if fed up with this weather.
Knowing that you have been reading along and keeping an eye on us all is like having a Guardian Angel watching our backs x
  • I never read this thread but a sixth sense must have told me to today and I am so pleased I did! What do I find but a post from our long absent friend CANDLELIGHT! Welcome back to the fold and thank you so much for the PMs you have sent me. You have been missed in your absence x
