Lainey- What a beauty Lulu is, she looks so calm and gentle. Enjoy every moment with her.

Pollyanna - there was no painting of the inside of the wardrobes but I did varnish three window sills which were very dried out and needed some yacht varnish. Must just be the sunlight drying out the natural wood. It was quite a quick job though.
I couldn't find the colour restorer for the cardi anywhere locally so have had to order online and wait. Meanwhile the horrible sickly pink cardi languishes in the cupboard. I'll be sure to post an update as soon as the restorer stuff arrives and I get to work on it.

I cleaned the inside of my windows and then decided to clean the glass on all the paintings ( I have a weakness for art). Just as well nobody else was around, I was mortified at how grubby the glass was on some of the paintings. My late grandmothers would have been absolutely appalled:o I must add that to my cleaning routine on a more regular basis.

Saw a trailer earlier for a documentary about people who live in the Rockies so I'm writing a note to remind me on Wednesday. Actually I should probably just record it but I have a habit of recording things and then not watching them.

Off south tomorrow on a ridiculously early flight so having an early night tonight although I suspect I won't sleep. At least I will see that big yellow thing in the sky tomorrow, I've forgotten what it's like!
Could be worse though - been watching the tv coverage of the flooding in Texas. We stayed in Rockport just after Hurricane Katrina and it was a lovely little seaside town but not very prosperous or grand. Nature's fury knows no bounds at times:( I should just be thankful I think.

  • Just popping in to hope all are well . I imagine HWK is continuing to improve . Any news from Candlelight yet Lyn?
It's very autumnal here now and a lot of our birds have been grouping up and taking off . It's been much cooler the last few days . I woke too early a few days ago to a full on thunder , lightning and very heavy rain morning .
The temperature is quite a lot lower and today is wet . It's much more conducive to a good nights sleep so it's welcome .
Wishing all a good day whatever you're doing .

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Relatively quiet here. Yesterday was nice, today not so but I did get sheets 70% dry so not too bad.

I dug up some carrots and Swedes which I boiled and mashed so six portions in the freezer. I really need to use lots of things from the freezer though as I would like to make ice cream but need the space to freeze the Kitchenaid attachment.

Busy few weeks ahead at work and for the first time in 15 years we are not going away on holiday in September. It feels very odd but having had two weeks in the sunshine in May and another two and a bit approaching after Christmas I really can't complain. We needed to do some work on the house here so something had to give and it was the September break. Hubby has his own business so won't take time off but I may take a week off and spend a day with mum and the rest doing various things. Will actually be nice to have some time at home for a change.

Made peanut butter chocolate brownies today which are delicious and have given me an idea for Thanksgiving dinner. Dessert is normally pumpkin pie as it's very traditional but I suddenly though of homemade vanilla ice cream , warm fudge sauce and straight from the oven warm chocolate brownies. I may gauge my thanksgiving guests thoughts beforehand - would certainly be a change of menu. :)

Busy week ahead with very changeable weather so who knows what lies ahead:)

  • I never tire of carrot and swede mash SM . Sweet potato mash is something i could just eat and eat . If I lived nearer I think I'd be begging on your doorstep , those brownies sound like my kind of thing . Weather is still cool and damp . I've had a knee length cardigan on all day which normally comes out in October so the season is turning fast . I hope your busy week flies by and you find space for the ice cream maker .

Any news on Lulu yet Lainey ?

Well I need to think about heading for bed soon . It's been a busy week .
I may do a hot water bottle as I'm determined the heating isn't going on in the first few days of September .
    Take care all
    Much love .

The beautiful Lulu sailed through her vetting thanks Polly and we willing be picking her up on Friday :j I have managed to get in the yard where two of my friends have their horses so will have instant company and cannot wait to take her for a long hack across the fens, it literally couldn't have worked out better. I cannot overstate how much of a much needed boost all of this has given me x
Another big fan here of carrot and swede mash SM in fact we had it yesterday with our beef brisket and it's one of my favourite veg combination. The allure of salad etc is fading fast and my cooking is certainly heading into more Autumnal flavours, the best part of eating according to the seasons I think.
Has anyone heard from Candlelight at all, or Hoglet, do miss her cycling exploits?

    Love to all x
  • It's wonderful how everything has fallen into place Lainey. The best therapy of all ! Enjoy every moment as you ride out with dear Bill alongside you .
I'm still assuming Candlelight is having the connection issues I had last year , it's following the time frame of mine . She would pm otherwise as she wouldn't want to worry anyone .
I'm thinking of Hoglet too but I think she had a busy time ahead , hopefully all is well with her .
Well busy day ahead so am just having a quick peep at the threads .
Have a good day all .
    Much love

  • No news yet POLLY but I'm dropping another short note into the post in case she didn't get the first one. I'm away grandpickle sitting until the weekend as from early tomorrow so I won't see the post that arrives until I'm back home. I so hope all is well and that it's not an intrusion to be making contact again!

My friend Sue and Charlie retriever are back and we walked with them today, Cookie was so very pleased to see them both. Good news and bad news they have found and offered on and been accepted a new home in Cornwall and are hoping to complete on their sale at this end on Wednesday next week. Bad news is they could be moving as soon as the 23rd of the month. I wish them happiness but I SHALL miss them very much indeed!

I love swede mashed on its own with black pepper and a little butter, it's one of the joys of winter food!
  • Lyn I don't think Candlelight would find another little note intrusive .
I've seen her concerned for others who have suddenly stopped posting myself included during the landline issue .
Thanks for taking the trouble to contact her . Enjoy the next few days . I imagine much fun will be had . Sad to see Charlies mum leaving but in a way helps when you find your new home as neither of you will be in the same place missing each other on familiar walks .
    Safe journey :heart2:

I've just caught up having been to Invararay in the caravan and thrilled to have confirmation that Lulu will be joining us. Congratulations on your new friend Lainey :D

Aw Lyn I'm sad to hear about Sue and Charlie moving. Thank you for contacting candlelight. She's always just there but I do know that connection issues means a forced distance and then that habitual draw kind of subsides. I've had breaks myself that wsy,

    Enjoy pickle sitting :D
  • Afternoon playmates, back from pickle wrangling at lunchtime to get a phone call from Ruthie to say that Orley had been projectile vomiting all morning.....and how was I? we'll see I guess!

I've heard from Candlelight who is absolutely fine and so are the rest of the family, she's been busy and taking a little break to do many other things but there is no problem she's well and happy so all is well with that knowledge. Hopefully there will come a time when she's got the inclination and the time to join us again and until then we'll keep her in our hearts and wish all of them happy and continuing good health!!! xxx.
