I'd like some rain..... At night :p

Did a lovely, favourite bike ride today - 20 miles:eek: and then a walk of a couple more where there isn't much climbing but there are fantastic views...

Am really interested that the weather has shown the outlines of some ancient hill forts emerging.... Amazing what secrets the ground holds.

Glad DB is on the mend, Monna

It got quite hot here again, this morning was really lovely, sunshine to begin with then it clouded over and was really breezy but still warm. I sat out until 7pm reading just enjoying the breeze!

fuddle - I got a mini polytunnel from either Home Bargains or B&M for about £7 and it's really good for helping the little seedlings survive before it gets warm enough for them to fend for themselves and also to shelter them from some autumn weather.

Fuddle hedgehogs will eat tin or pouch cat food - NOT bread & milk! Do you have any hedge or old branches that he will shelter under?

Lainey I see the cattle and sheep wandering around doing the same. When I can hear them Moo I know it's because they want moving on to pastures new but the pastures new just don't come. :(

Squeeeee! I've just seen a hedgehog outside of my plot. Can I feed it? DD and I want to get it some shelter. I have a wooden chest that I keep my sewing machine in. I can sacrifice that. That's 2 frogs and a hedgehog near by. I am now worried because slug pellets are rife on the plots. :(

In other news. I have a pollinated pumpkin! Others are coming. :D Mr Pea Seedling said I couldn't grow pumpkins without a pollytunnel. Never tell fuddle she can't do something! I just have to nurse it through to Autumn now. I've sussed hand pollinating the cucumbers, I'm going to have to train them along the greenhouse roof!

FUDDLE - You may want to check this out, not sure if it applies to this time of year, but this is the second time in a week that someone has mentioned seeing hedgehog in the daytime.

Last year in the early autumn our neighbour found one, which she had seen on 2 consecutive days, OH picked it up and I contacted the local HH rescue people, the lady told me that they were out in the day because they desperately needed food. It is likely perhaps that with the prolonged dry weather and rock hard ground that they are not able to find enough worms, slugs, grubs etc and water:(

    Cows.
We have some new cows in the field, three of them have really thick coats and two have huge horns, they look like American steers. We also have a calf I've warned CHS to keep well away from it as it's mother will be very protective.

Flying ants everywhere today, we were driven inside. I had a load of washing on the line and flying ants were crawling all over it. I brought the sheets inside to make the bed and I had to have the hoover ready to clear them off the sheets and pillowcases:eek::eek:
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Well.... we have a fairly impressive collection of weaponry, including a Sgian Dubh, a ceremonial labrys and a Roman dagger; I also have a selection of shed snakeskins, and one or two other .... er.... interesting ornamental items (though I did draw the line at the quartz penis I saw at a street market in Brugge as it was too expensive).

Aaah. Doesn't seem that odd at all to me, but I wonder what that says about me :o I would have been tempted with the quartz penis, but likely would have been stopped by my husband. He's still a bit dubious of the antique brass denture mould I picked up.

If you like snakeskins, I *may* be able to oblige you with a few more?

Fuds - hedgehogs like dry cat biscuits too but if you give them wet cat food, don't give them fish flavours, they don't eat fish. They love eggs to. We found hedgehog poo on our plot last week after everyone keeps saying they've never seen a hog at the allotments. I'm going to build a feeding station near our pond and the bloke on the next plot is going to set up some wildlife cameras so we can see what's coming and going.

Well done on the pumpkin! I was told the same by MIL, I have 4 on one plant and 2 on the other so far. I'm of the firm belief that I'll give anything a go and stick it in the ground, if it works then great, if not then I'll try it somewhere else next time. Luckily the "oh you don't want to do that" brigade have backed down now they've seen I'm actually capable.

Not been unbearable heat here, always a wee breeze. We have no hosepipe bans yet but I haven't had the energy to water the garden apart from my salad stuff onions and tatties.
Am with you VJsmum re the archeology appearing in the drought, very fascinating.

I know this isn't the right place to post but I think Mrs LW or some clever person might have the answer.
I have a couple of sweet potatoes that have decided to sprout. Do I plant them now or do I wait until the slips are long and plant the slips?
    Thank you
