Fingers crossed FPK. My mum has incurable cancer but it is one that can often be kept pretty much low level. She had 6 months chemo (tolerated very well), 2 weeks of radiotherapy and is now on frequent blood tests and monitoring. In fact her hosp visit this week shows good results from all bloods. She had said she was feeling well, so good to confirm ber body is still coping. We still worry a lot, esp as she is so susceptible to infections, but she is still able to enjoy life and although she sometimes has some pain she knows how to keep it to a minimum, and if it persists she has meds (thankfully rarely used).

Thunder n lightening here since about noon. DH rang to report a hail storm where he is, about 5 miles away. Made me feel energised :rotfl: Have got loads of housework done!
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.
  • My ex mil has breast cancer, she was diagnosed about 5 years ago and is still going strong, she was told she'll die with it not of it. She is nearly 90!
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Thanks all, nice to hear similar stories. FIL is home now. There wasn't any news today, but we should find out more on Monday--mostly confirmation of the diagnosis and hopefully a much better sense of how serious it is. Both of us are exhausted so we'll have some of the cold food from the fridge and an early night. Gym and chores tomorrow and then a day out Sunday as we both agreed it was important to do something else for a bit.

FairyP: So sorry that you have had all this worry. Here's hoping that there is a satisfactory outcome for your FIL.

It has been a lovely day here today. I took my coffee out into the garden this morning and sat out there with with my book for an hour. Oh, the joys of being retired.
I went into the kitchen and noticed raindrops on the window. Couldn't believe it so went back outside and sure enough it was raining. Sun still shining, clear blue sky and rain. Goodness knows where it was coming from but it was quite heavy for a minute or two, then stopped. Mysterious.

    How goes it burtha?

Good grief, you girls can talk :p When I get here, the chances of me catching up adequately are slim. Yet how is it, I can miss 50 weeks of coronation st and not have any bother whatsoever catching up when I get to England??

Still no computer on the horizon for me. And I have other mitigating factors for not being here (Your Honour...). Factor number 1 is I've been at work full time and it's best described as a three ring circus there (I alternate between coming home too stunned to talk and being upset). Factor 2 is whilst putting on a new ironing board cover, I pulled the string real tight, lost my grip and punched the sticking out metal bit that puts it up. Cue an xray, an ultrasound and much ouchies. Ironing is such a dangerous sport.

FairyP, sending hugs. I too know many who've lived with cancer for donkeys years at the end, without too much bother. One lady made it to 92 living quite independently, yet I remember her getting diagnosed when I was a small child. I hope your FIL follows that pattern.

Hugs to Fuddle too. Some people can act as though they're kings of the castle when they're of a certain age, doing a certain hobby and feel they have a superior entitlement. I've seen zimmer frames brandished in nursing homes over which TV chair belongs to which resident and fisticuffs at a club over bingo seats. Some folk get more delightfully tolerant and friendly with age, some turn into little... er... well fill in the blanks. Hope you continue to make friends and have support when others attack.

Hope Uri didn't bend the boat Hester. Would bring a whole new meaning to Uboat...

Book talk, I loooove to read. 3 or 4 books come home each day from the library and are read at any available moment (it sounds like I have a lot of time, but I am just a very fast reader). Present obsession is Robert Crais. I'll read most things, but not much romance other than Nora Roberts. I'd rather have action.

Anyhoo, that's my time up. I'm off work today and tomorrow, but intending to do the housework and maybe even get another room painted. I promise to get pics of the finished rooms soon (if only to prove I've been up to something to excuse my absence :p)

    Much love to you all
    xx

All I can say to that is OUCH, sotstuff. Am I right you are a little accident prone?

I hope your job improves. It sounds like they could do with a really bossy Boss.

I hope you get a computer soon, we really miss you, monna misses you in the night when she can't sleep. I can't sleep because just after tea I fell asleep for over 2 hours.

I should have bagged up 5 kg of chicken into portions for two, plus flavoured chicken, 2 kg of mince and a load of sausages. When I woke up I could not be bothered so I have them all to do tomorrow.

FPK If the hospital are not too worried then I don't think any of you should, the worst bit is the chemo. Make sure he gets anti emetics to stop the sickness and anything else he may need to alleviate the symptoms. All of the appointments every six weeks have helped me to learn to get around Manchester.

Not looking forward to my next scan and next appointment as our Station is closed for refurbishment.

Very amused at the thought of Uri bending Hester's boat but nothing that happens when she's around surprises me.

Hello Softstuff  your mishap with the ironing board sounds painful and it puts you well within your rights to jettison both iron and board without delay ;) ..... Why people own either has always been a mystery to me!

NM I'm in the sleepless club yet again too.

I have been restless all night and have more or less given up on sleep now. I'm really tired but just can't sleep so here I am at stupidly early o'clock yet again *sighs*....

Nursemaggie, I'd like to say I wasn't accident prone, but my history proves otherwise... don't think anyone will remember, but the reason we ended up with a dyson is I got my boob trapped in the extendable nozzle of the previous vacuum :o. And Karcher, can't get rid of the ironing board now, it's too pretty!

Congratulations to your son Nursemaggie, hope he's going well there, it sounds promising. I'm still trying to catch up on news, but failing somewhat. I did spot that I'm apparently good for random thread parties, Pollyanna. Don't know where I get the party animal reputation from *pushes the box of party hats and blowouts under the coffee table with my toe* :D

Monna, it'd help ever so if you could give a condensed weekly catch up on everyone, "previously on The Garden Fence", read in a deep dishy voice like Graham used to do on Blind Date. Ta very much ;)

Hubby is trying to get me some photos of the laundry and bathroom... a bit like a note to the teachers to say why I've been absent!

Okipoki, trying out a new way with piccies, so bear with me....

    20170815_093937.jpg
Bathroom piccie 1(the basin is enamel, and makes a ding like the bell at a boxing match!)

    20170815_093951.jpg
Bathroom piccie 2 (the loo is "overheight", so small people dangle their feet and hubby and I are comfy!)

    20170815_094022.jpg
A shower large enough for 2 (water saving :D)

    20170815_094036.jpg
Mi Laundry (missing a couple of piccies for the wall, but haven't found the right frames yet)

    20170815_094105.jpg
The offending ironing board (Pretty but lethal. Like Hester.)

    20170815_134335.jpg

    A bit o the garden.

Forgive me posting too much, but hubby is playing guitar and I've commandeered his puter!
