Well I have just finished my first 'shadowing' shift in my new job. Suffice it to say the first thing I did when I got home, after making a cup of tea was rejoin unison toot suite. Not impressed at all. There is a 'senior' there who apparently is 'direct'. Umm no. She's actually a bully. Am actually appalled by a lot of things so will observe a bit longer then contact CQC. Great stuff. Chipped cups. So few cups people are washing them in the sluice once others have finished with them. Jeez. Health and safety and infection control what's that? Am totally totally dumbfounded. Tomorrow I MAY do some mandatory training online. How exciting.0

Haven't yet contacted CQC but will. Not sure when next visit due or even if they have had one yet, I think new 'owners' have taken over but quite frankly I don't know why or when or what that means. It's all rather new to me, have worked in old folks homes in late 80's early 90's but they were council owned. Then I was NHS from 92 til 2016 so it is a whole new ball game. But will watch. My best friend knows, she is more tuned in with these sort of places. I am sooo shocked. The residents seem fine and well cared for so nothing there, just these strange things I noted.
Appears as though the last cqc visit MAY have been 2016 when everything appears 'good' .0 -
Ouch Hellebore, I thought that sort of thing went out decades ago. There are laws about bullying in the workplace and as for the business of cups, I would take my own mug and hang on to it for dear life.
What I don't understand is, how has this been allowed to go on. Well done for being prepared to take this further.I believe that friends are quiet angels

My beloved calls me Sexy and someone once asked my why he called me it. I replied that love is blind but he still didn't understand. The real reason my beloved doesn't use my name is because he has two previous wives and a previous long term significant other. When he does attempt to call me by my name he usually calls me either Denise or Anita, neither of which is my name!Chin up, Titus out.0

Unfortunately with the cup thing, we can't stop and have a drink, I'm only on a 6 hour shift so cannot really go and make one 'officially' and don't know my way around yet, it is a vast building and I have no sense of direction, even though all corridors above and below each are the same iyswim! But I even looked at the crappy towels and thought bloody hell I remember towels like that at my second old folks home, threadbare and tatty, in 1990.
Ah they are saying the bully is 'direct' umm no.
And my poor feet....
I laughed, one of the carers, nice girl, said she would like me to shadow her ,upstairs. Challenging behaviour corridor and as I came from mental health. WELL. If they are challenging I am def a monkeys uncle. I did say, ooh yep I'd like to work up here. Only cos it appears easy I'm afraid. But only first day thus far. So we'll have to see. Must stop winging must stop stating that maybe that particular medication isn't going to help if this particular lady hears voices.....phew.
Hard cos we didn't sit down. Well I did when I could but blimey.0 -
My DB calls me tootles. no idea why, I call him pixieface most of the time, something far worse when he upsets me....................which can be frequently!!0

I am horrified to find that an employee can be made to work 6 hours without, not only a few minutes break, but a drink! How on earth have we let that become legal, to deny someone water for 6 hours. And the PTB go on and on about healthy lifestyles etc etc. It makes my blood boil
My mum calls me Lizzie. That bears no resemblance to to my given name and I have no idea why it started but I answer to it! It didn't half confuse my DH when he first heard mum say it!!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Drink wise, I took water bottles with me but left them in staff room as had no clue what I was doing. Probably the same again when on the floor. Apparently mornings are busy. No !!!! sherlock, as if I didn't know. I did have a mug of horribly stewed tea, had to wash mug in sluice tho, when all the residents had drunk, would have had one earlier but no mug, no clue where the one I used came from. No extra crockery, I wanted a large plate to butter toast on. None. But later on suddenly there was a board to butter it on. Oh bully didn't like it cos I wasn't taking notes like she suggested. A) I had no pocket well a little one and
Writing notes is not going to make me remember who is who. I did start then thought, sod this no point!
At one point there was a barbeque so I spent all my time trying to cajole a 'difficult' resident to eat. Of course bully nowhere to be seen. So I went into a sitting area for a sit down. Bully came through and said 'mingle'. So where were YOU when I was helping Mr Difficult? Oh she has her fag breaks. Must find out if she wirks long days or not. Grrrr.0 -
Wow! Won't let me say s. h. i. t. Haha!0
