Hi IVYLEAF Oh YES WE DID! fab place is Belgium, not somewhere I knew well but so easy to be in and they have possibly the best chocolate on the planet. Architecture to rival the best anywhere, friendly and lovely people, fantastic food (did I mention the chocolate?) and is somewhere we will most definitely go to again. We were in Antwerp which is a super place, visited Bruges which is absolutely beautiful and then popped over the border to the German town of Aachen and the choir sang in cathedrals in all three places all of which were magnificent buildings. Much fun had and much giggling done as well as beautiful singing! Nice to be home and back to every day life again now though xxx.

How gorgeous! We lived near Antwerp for a couple of years when Mr ivyleaf was in the Army. Several years ago we went back there for a city break, and went by train to the town where we'd lived. The Brits weren't stationed there any more, but the grocer's round the corner still looked exactly the same as when we lived there 40 years ago. It's now run by the daughter of the couple who ran it when we were there, and she said the only thing she'd changed was to buy some taller shelving so there was room for more stock :D I love Bruges too. Never been to Aachen though! DS went there on a school trip once.

Lilli I can iron with my right hand (so to speak :D) but it feels quite awkward. But sometimes if you're ironing something big it makes it easier .

fuddle and nursemaggie yes we really did get spammed about fencing panels, so funny :rotfl:

Sending big (((HUGS))) to the Nargles.

Forgot to say Commiserations about the hay fever, Hester :( Have you got some eye drops?

Hi Ivyleaf. Yes I have seen my GP and I have been given painkillers, anti- inflammatories and a gel. Oh and some stomach tablets to counteract the others. The first two days I was walking like a drunken sailor, until I spoke to the pharmacist. Seems like the GP had given me strong doses of everything . She suggested that I cut down on the painkillers. At least now I know who I am, even if I don't know what I 'm supposed to be doing :D. My hand is showing some improvement but I have to wear a splint if I want to use it. ( so that's most of the day ) and it's a blummin nuisance !
Thanks Softstuff, nothing is ever simple, is it ? Distracted by bacon ? Would you mind if I used that excuse too ? ;)
I missed the bit about the fence panels, did they come ready painted ? Would have loved to see them try to deliver :rotfl:.
Emptynester I too love the " enchanted fence "
I love this thread 'cos you're all bonkers :rotfl: ( and I fit right in ! )
    Hugs to all.

Bless - the enchanted fence reminds me of reading the 'Faraway Tree' as a kid :D

Not that there was a fence involved in the book :rotfl:

I am feeling a bit guilty, not MSE at all, but we have bought a new car, awaiting delivery, but since paying deposit DH has been working all hours - I don't know if it's just a busy time (that's what he is telling me) or to pay towards car  No car is worth him not being here :(
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

I love Bruges and Aachen too.

There's a lovely wee place between them, Valkenburg, which shades them both. Definitely worth going via if you're travelling between Bruges and Aachen.

It's about 2 1/2 hrs from Bruges, about 1/2 hr from Aachen.

I too have not seen this advert but surely no human would do this they know our fence it virtual. It must be algorithms from Google.
I missed it, too. And Mr G00gle can keep his algorithms to himself, thank you very much! :D

Fwiw, I used to do fencing when I was at school - the sort with an epee, though. I had an unfair advantage as I was the only one in the class who fenced left-handed. :rotfl:

I've been busy today; apart from seeing to Honey's needs (walk, play, another walk, more play, food, more play.... you get the idea) I've been planting up pea seedlings (sorry Fuddle). I got a small packet of seeds as a freebie a few days back, and thought I might as well give it a go. I've never grown peas before!

MrsLW we had our honeymoon in Brugge (or Bruges if you prefer) and we've been back several times since.

Actually I think Fuddle might quite like to plant Mr Pea Seedling :rotfl:.

I've heard of Valkenburg - I think it's the place where they hold the underground Christmas Market?

LW I used to want to go to a school where they taught fencing :D It always looked very glam/dashing in the pictures in Bunty, Princess, etc :D Good luck with the peas. May they grow well :)

I reckon either way would do :rotfl:
  • Nell and I took a coach trip to the Valkenburg Christmas markets quite a few years ago before we discovered Berlin. The coach drivers spent more of the weekend reversing round corners in various places as they got lost so often, the hotel was at Maastricht Airport, our window actually looked out on the cargo runway, some hairy moments I can tell you! The caves the market was in were interesting but we took an alternative trip to Aachen for a Weinachts Markt and decided we liked the German style of things much better. The trip back home was made only fractionally more in forwards motion than the trip there and we again spent much time reversing round corners to find the right roads.

The trip there started from Reading at 8.30 am and we got to Maastricht at 9.30 at night, the trip home started at Maastricht at 8.30 am and we got back to Reading at 2.30 the following morning.....needless to say we decided NEVER to book with the company again!
