Never heard that saying Polly, I can cross my eyes too. It's great for shutting up howling babies in shops or buses..
Twice in my life I've left my handbag lying somewhere and both times it's been handed intact into the police station. Was a long time ago though and nowadays the police stations are all closed...0 -
Fate has taken a hand - he's gone down with a streaming cold & lost his voice! So they drifted off quite early last night. Still can't get them up this morning though...Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Morning all,
Going to take a break this morning and head to the gym. Surgery appointment is this afternoon and even though I've been told there won't be a test, I'm still worked up. Hopefully the gym will help burn off some of the adrenaline. We had Delia's baked aubergine for tea last night. It was a very simple recipe although I didn't have enough room in the dish so only used half of the aubergines..so we only have a spoonful of it left. There is also one portion of cumin lasagna left, but I'm determined OH is eating that one! I got a bit of work done this morning and will try to do a bit more later. Not sure about tea tonight it will be something left on the meal plan..I won't even say the soup as that will certainly mean we won't have it!
TW--how poetic
Burtha, hugs. I hope that you managed a good night's sleep last night.
Monna--the sounds promising!!!0 -
FPK - chuckling about your DH's creations. My DS (who is a good cook now) when he was on his own in a flat made a fish finger omlettes ( broke before payday) then ruined it by putting vinegar into the mixture that curdled the eggs! No he didn't eat it.
I'm getting my hair done today - friends daughter is doing it - getting rid of my grey roots and a much needed trim. Hav'n't had a 'proper' hairdo for about 2 years so overdue!!
The loss of my £20 pales when I think about your £50 Monna - I can just imagine how sick you must have felt - same for handbags too. There are lots of good honest people about still.
Heavy rain forecast for today so I'll just bimble about with the duster and might do some baking. Have a good day allSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
FPk I'll be sending calming vibes for the surgery appt. It will soon be over . Finishing his "creation" may deter your oh from fusion for a while .
TW Oh the joy of Karma or as my mum used to say "That will stop his gallop"
Mar Aren't you also from Southern Ireland stock? My childhood was full of all those sayings . Mum and her family had one for every occasion . We still use them today without thinking . " The sights you see when you haven't got your gun " being one in regular use . Nowadays there are so many times when that one's very apt .
TW I would bring out the elderberry syrup and put him on a light boring diet . Get all the e numbers out of his system from the rubbish he's been buying . I feel sorry for the middle one , he sounds as though he would have got much more from the experience without all this madness . He's sticking in the trio as they're on different soil with strange ways and he needs them .
Any more messing and I would make that phone call .

TW, my goodness, your guardian angel is working overtime. Lets hope that the lost voice isn't found too soon.
Polly. I well remember that saying. Not just about crossing your eyes but whatever unpleasant face we were pulling we were told would stay like that if the wind changed.
We have a family saying that I love. In years past a child was part of a group who were trying to outdo each other in the impressive things about their homes. This particular child searched wildly for something special about his home. Finally he came up with,"We've got steps up to our dustbin."
Since then anyone boasting or trying hard to impress has been described as " She/he must have steps up to her/his dustbin."
Thinking of you burtha, as always.
After yesterday's strenuous efforts to make this half empty house look attractive to buyers I had the best nights sleep I have had for months. I didn't come to until gone 8.00 am. So thats the answer to sleep difficulties. More housework. You heard it here first.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning, fellow fencers
Pants weather here again, forecast was to be fine and dry overnight, so I put out washing at teatime and left it...so of course it rained overnight, and is still raining !!!!!!!!
Pollyanna, didn't know you'd home educated (or have I forgotten?!) - we've just taken our two youngest out of school to HE, and the future is looking brighter. Anyone else here, especially in the north of England, home educate?
Had an endoscopy yesterday following a first 2 months ago. Horrid, unpleasant thing to undergo, but necessary after being diagnosed with stomach and oesophagus ulcers. Chap yesterday also confirmed diagnosis of Barrett's Oesophagus, really hoping it wasn't going to be, given the very high incidence of stomach/digestive tract cancers on one side of my family!. No wonder I've been eating Rennies like sweeties...
Fuds, so wish I had an allotment, too, grumpy old farts notwithstanding - looking into sharing with a friend, but the waiting lists for sites close by are very long. You stick to your guns, smile sweetly, and worm your way into their affections, and they'll be eating out of your hand in no time.

Pollyanna et al, I spoke to the organisers last night. It seems some of the problem is that the "leaders" of this trip aren't very grown-up themselves, and some of the things I've been blaming the boys for aren't within their control; the leaders haven't actually been telling them what they are doing & what they will need the next day, and they haven't been communicating with the people who organise us host families either. So they didn't get back until 9.30 last night - their "curfew" is 9pm & we were expecting them back at 6pm - and they had been "fed" (at McD's) thus leaving us all with uneaten food. Strong complaints have been sent to Germany, compensation is expected, and these particular "leaders" - mostly language students like my own youngest boy (who is currently working on an MA in Applied Linguistics) - won't be employed again. It was noticeable when they arrived that all the leaders were young, in their early 20s; usually there are a couple of older & well-experienced teachers with them, but not this time. Eldest boy is a sorry sight this morning; had a big nosebleed, and has gone off dosed up with paracetemol & warm "apfelsaft" with cinnamon. If he was mine I'd have kept him at home, and they won't have had time to go to the supermarket en route.
Middle lad is a delight; left to himself I think he'd just play in the kitchen! His mother is Russian, he's very interested in what I call "comparative cuisine" - and he loves to cook! He made us scrambled eggs German-style on Sunday evening, examined (& ate) the scones at breakfast with great care & delight, and found a recipe for a Russian scones for me to try out!Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
TW, the middle lad sounds a real treasure! Hopefully, the complaint will reach the right ears, and be acted upon. These schemes only work with the good will of families like yours, so they're shooting themselves in the foot by not organising things better!

TW I have always said quietly to myself "There is no such thing as karma" looks like there is for this one.
I hope everything will go well from now on.0
