Mum emailed to say 4 to 6 inches of snow up there. DB had to drive from the airport, took 2 hours but he is there safe. He's taking mum to the registrar tomorrow morning and we hope to skype at about lunchtime. He says mum is doing ok.

I didn't sleep well, not surprisingly, so I had a little lie in. DH and I then went shopping for gifts for nephew and neice, his parents and my mum. We got some nice things for them all. If the truth be told, er, I treated myself to a new watch. Mine has given up and the strap is broken (I have tried 3 times to mend it) so I reckon I can almost justify the new purchase. It fits perfectly and it did bring a big smile to my face - watches in this price range are normally just functional but this is a bit funky :D

Am about to rustle up leftover curry and fresh veg for tea. Rum over ice will follow, hicc!

    Keep safe, Everyone!

Looking ok for the hospital today buses are running according to twitter. Would appreciate good vibes for us today please Fencers but just make them silent ones, don't clog up the page :) I won't be here anyway until tonight.
Hope all who got snow are liking it and those who want some get it today!

Poor old mar, I imagine that she and the RV will be even now battling their way to the hospital on the bus. I've just been hearing on TV that the Scottish gritting lorries all have their own names. My favourites were Gritty McVitie and Gritty, Gritty Bang Bang.

A cold windy night followed by a colder windy morning. No sign of snow though. I think the last time the island saw snow was 8 years ago this month.
I will battle my way up to the shop this morning, I don't really need anything but am trying to get out for a walk every day and have to have an objective. Never seen the point of going "for a walk," for the sake of it. Especially in dire weather.

The rest of the day will be spent hunkered down indoors.
Keep warm everyone, especially you karcher. All of you fighting off or recovering from, flu-ey things and other nasties, wrap up well and keep up the fluids.

    THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Before you "assume" try this crazy method called "asking."

Just the usual NW coastal dampness here, but bitterly cold with it. Need to complete 2 lots of marmalade - "ordinary" Seville & blood orange varieties - before going to work for 12 noon.

Thinking of all who are struggling xx

  • Windy and cold here today but clear blue skies and some winter sunshine which we are due to keep all day, then we get a heavy band of rain right across the whole country from 8ish this evening but it will rattle through and be gone before tomorrow morning thank goodness. It's soggy underfoot now so I think tomorrow walking here at least will be limited to 'made' pathways and not across the common or the open grassy areas. Roll on Spring eh?

Taking my friend to the big blue box store today. I will have a look at the kitchen utensils as some of mine are rather tatty & elderly & DS1 wants me to get a couple of small items for him m. TBH I'm not a big fan of maze like stores but it's only once in a while. Been hearing on the radio about the drivers in Scotland stuck in the snow for hours - nasty! Hope Mar and the RV are OK. MMF - kick back with that rum!
Karcher - hope you're warming up. Floss - lovely HM marmalade - nothing better!
    Burtha - hugs

Tomorrow we'll be going away for a few days to scatter my brother's ashes. monna, and Islandmaid, we'll be across the Solent from you! And not too far from Lyn. I have told all the family to wear their warmest clothes for the occasion, regardless of what colour they might be. *insert shivering emoji here*

    ((HUGS)) to everyone :)
  • Morning all,

Worked has picked back up again and I'm feeling a bit like a rat on a wheel so likely my last post for awhile.

I was about to drift off last night when we had some thundersnow. I normally quite like thunderstorms but this was so close, it struck something less than a mile away and scared the life out of me. A few inches this morning, but most of life running as normal.

Karcher--I'm onto the coughing stage, I do hope whatever you have isn't the flu. I had glandular fever as a teen as well. I don't get tummy aches (although i do remember the odd swollen spleen sensation). I do think I get ill more easily since then..but that isn't based in any knowledge. Look after yourself. Tea, hot honey lemon, hot water bottles and rest whenever possible.

Right, first break of the day over. Hugs to all who need them.x
