  • Hugs to Karcher, Burtha and MMF.

My DD went to a very famous nanny college, she was part of a team of 6 who all very high marks for 'their' sewing projects. I made 6 items of clothing, one was a christening gown, 6 soft toys, these included a teddy, a cloth book, a play mat amongst other items. I also knitted/crocheted 6 matinee jackets.

MMF I have great memories of your dad sitting up in bed drinking G&T through a straw and watching Stictly. Well, I bet he is now teaching the angels the words to Rose Marie and how to Yodel.
A memorial service in the spring sounds just right.

Of course you will miss him but I don't think that you would wish him back, he went at exactly the right time for him.
Your mum is going to need all your support now. I'm glad you have had this fabulous holiday, it will give you strength to face real life when you get back.

MMF07 The end of an era. I truly believe that sometimes people wait until they are alone to die. It is almost as if they feel obliged to stay when someone is at their bedside, and that what they need is for their nearest and dearest to tell them they are loved, that everything and everyone will be fine, and to give them permission to leave this world - then leave them in privacy. That is my theory, anyway. I am so glad you have some happy memories of his last few weeks. Take care.

Karcher - any fool can get in debt. I am one of the biggest, and am now out the other side thanks to help from Stepchange and some lovely wise folks on these forums. Check out the Debtfree Wannabe forum if you haven’t done so already. Hang in there, that light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.

Burtha - all power to you! Probably feels like you’re wading through treacle at the moment but the process is underway, you have a solicitor handling things (remember, you are paying the bill so don’t be afraid to kick a s s if need be) and things will work out. Then look at yourself in a year’s time - you will be in a far better situation and on track with your life. Don’t ever give up the running - it is obvious from your posts that running is very therapeutic for you.

And for the rest of you - look after yourselves as we work our way through the winter. The days are starting to lengthen and even in mardatha’s god-forsaken corner of the Universe ( sorry, only kidding!) there will be signs of new growth and the coming of Spring.

MMF big hug from soggy Blackpool. My mum did the same while her carer made a cup of tea. A spring memorial sounds lovely, and the flowers will be plentiful for a glorious send-off for your beloved dad.

A nice ending to a nice man's life MMF.
Nargle if there are any signs of new growth in the godforsaken hole then they will have to fight their way through 24 hours of constant snow that's due to hit tonight :D
Went to local hosp today expecting it to be Flu Hell. It was empty. One old man had a cough, nobpdy sneezed or even sniffed. You just never know eh!

MMF - so sorry to learn about your Dad. Enjoy the rest of your holiday and come home refreshed.
Mardatha - stay warm & snug - virtual jelly babies on their way (I've eaten all the black ones though)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

MMF So sorry for your loss xx

My father died at this time of year (but many many years ago) and we buried his ashes and had a gathering in the Spring too, as like your dad's family and friends, many couldn't make it to the actual funeral.

It was a beautifully sunny April day..a fitting tribute to a remarkable man..I still miss him especially as the anniversary of his very sudden departure is only days away.

You are right not to cut short your holiday and I hope the sun and sea keep your spirits lifted, along with the rum ;).

Thinking of you and I will raise a toast with a stiff G&T to your dad and to mine, as it was one of his favourite drinks too :) xxx

MMF007 I am so sorry that you have lost your lovely Dad. Thinking of you and your family.
