LameWolf said:I won't have Zoflora products in the house. No way am I going to risk the health of my canine guests.Polly, you asked a way upthread if the cardi I have part done is the fisherman's thickness one. No, I finished that one a long while ago, and it's extremely warm to wear, so I tend to use it on the very coldest days. The one I have on the go now (or rather, stalled at present) is deep cherry-pink gen-yoo-ine Swaledale wool.Don't worry about typos; I'm amazed I don't do more of them, considering I have a five-month-old Cockerpoo trying to muscle in on everything I do.Deep cherry pink sounds like a lovely colour. That should keep you very warm too. Those Swaledale sheep have very thick coats for the tougher conditions high on the fells of the Yorkshire Dales. There are lots of different names for yarns I remember growing up Sirdar, Wendy and many others. When dd1 moved to Yorkshire the first place she lived was Wakefield where the Sirdar mill is. It was quite sad on a mill visit that most of the machinery had been moved to Turkey as it was considered more economical and 80% of manufacturing is now done there.I used a very light , soft and warm mixed Sirdar chunky yarn for the quick to knit and warm Stormy Weather shawls and it is a shame those mills survived for generations but like most of the Lancashire cotton mills have had to base a lot of manufacturing abroad to survive. The five month Cockerpoo sounds fun but exhausting.I've never seen a young one so had a look online. They have such lovely little faces and look as though they could be a bundle of mischief. Not long to Solstice now this year seems to have flown by.pollyxxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.9 -
Polly, that takes me back
When I was first married to the ex my BiL had a small side business dealing with Hayfield Wools. He ran a wool club where you could have all the wool you needed to complete the garment at once and pay for it weekly. I used to deliver and collect the money for lots of his customers. At the time I was working as a telephonist receptionist in a small gatehouse on my own so I could knit and crochet to my heart's content! I don't knit now but do occasionally crochet baby shawls or blankets.
I do use Zoflora Hyacinth, a cap full now and again in Ptraps when we go away and a capful in my steamer when I do the floors in the kitchen, dining room and utility. TBH I wasn't aware it was toxic to animals 😱😱Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle9 -
I've also ditched the zoflora but I used to love the stuff and put it on/in everything!!
I do like smelly things and light candles etc but at some point would like to experiment with a few drops of essential oils in homemade cleaning solutions. With babies and the cat, though, it will need to wait for a time when we can do some proper research and figure out what's safe.
Life feels like it's going by so quickly. I'm tired all the time ...yesterday I was up at 6, did job 1 until 12, then job 2 until 5.30, went and got the baby, made dinner, ate quickly, went to French class came back and cleaned the kitchen and it was 10pm.
Today I have a full day's work, squeezing in a hospital appointment, and then am supposed to go to book club but don't know if I can face it!!7 -
I use Zoflora all the time. nowhere near the cat so it's fine. I like the new ones - Mimosa is amazing.

MandM, you must be worn to a frazzle, but take heart, you will survive. We all have times in our lives that we look back on and wonder how on earth we got through it. However, we do.
The trick is to carve yourself out out little fragments of time that are purely yours. It may only be 10 minutes or quarter of an hour, but make the most of that short time. Put your feet up. Breathe deeply. Drink a cup of coffee (or something!) Listen to some music. Go limp. Stretch. Do whatever it takes to relax yourself. Good luck. You may not believe it, but all this will pass. And I'm not going to make the kidney stone joke.
My visitor has just left and my house will now settle down into it's usual dishevelled state.
I'm taking the next couple of days off and doing very little. It's the nearest thing I'll get to a holiday and I intend to enjoy every minute.I believe that friends are quiet angels

A dull gloomy morning here, I had plans to go a walk but snot happening. Still attached to this chair and I've been up since 7
Trying to get enthusiastic about the festive season but right now that's not happening either. Once we're past Halloween then I begin to perk up, I enjoy deep winter.

His owners collected him this morning, and already the bungalow seems empty.I hope no-one minds me shoving a doggy pic onto the thread.
