A long long time ago my kids had blazers for the opposite sex. I could only get a boys blazer for my daughter from the supplier when she started that school. When my son grew out of his blazer I could not get a boys blazer in his size. They both refused to swap so they went the rest of their time there no one ever noticed.

Been to Doctor about swollen ankles today and my blood pressure is high - it was taken taken twice - so now I have diuretic tablets. The first time I had TMD it started in my jaw into my ear and then I had pain in my temple. Your description sounded like mine which is why I wondered about TMD.I'm glad things have settled now and hope the diuretics help reduce the swelling in your ankles, I'm lucky not to have had that problem but it must be very uncomfortable.Hopefully the TMD will be a one off event. Mine happens again from time to time but i now recognise the painful jaw and if the pain travels to my ear I go on soft foods and that usually sorts things quickly.I miss the well browned toast with crisply grilled bacon medallions and tiny grilled tomatoes I used to enjoy as a toasted sandwich and always will but it's a small price to pay.The boys did good today for the first Premier League season Florence, I hope Bruno never leaves, I think he has Man U in his heart and soul.Playing your father and sons team next monna. Just been catching up on posts. You can't get rid of Davids spiders unless you still have some of your own. Chucking the glitter at the cobwebs for the festive season ( I'm being careful mothernerd) is now a Fence tradition so you need some webs unless you knit a few.I hope Chris- who -used -to- play - cricket sorted out the tablet. I was unable to use my laptop from posting on Tuesday until late yesterday. Youngest suggested a tablet! No I screamed monna has a tablet with a life of it's own my fingers wouldn't cope nor would my foggy brain, end of discussion.Off to make a brew, I'l be back.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Senior school everything with any logo or badge was only available from one very expensive school outfitter in the town, ties , blazers jumpers all the different sports gear, PE bag only shirts lacked a logo. When I withdrew youngest from formal education to home school her at the age of 13 I passed a recently bought only worn three times blazer and full uniform to a mum who's youngest dd diddn't have full badged uniform after staring there a month earlier, mum was buying bit by bit when she could afford the next item.I know my uniform at grammer school was expensive but normal schools didn't enforce uniform from specialist suppliers back then. Even nowadays it seems wrong. It's possible to sew a badge on to a blazer bought where most affordable. A school tie was the only item in my childrens primary school which had the schools logo on and affordable. Summer and Winter uniform was a available from many shops to suit the budget or in some cases LA uniform grant. it was only the colours that mattered.IMO the situation is divisive, stressful for some parents and the children and someone is making a lot of money using one supplier. A long time ago there was a shop here that sold good quaity schoolwear at affordable prices. Cotton Trutex shirts and blouses and all other items. The owner was always helpful and would chase up items out of stock. A couple of years after the one supplier issue began he had to put up the shutters and admit defeat. I often overheard him advising someone on how to get the best value for that uniform grant often knocking a few pounds off to keep it to the limit. There are still many who need a person like that in their lives, not everyone can afford to buy the overpriced items. Marcus Rashford has spoken of the difference between the haves and have nots including at school. being seen as different affects lives into the future . Not everyone is lucky enough to be noticed by a Premier League Academy scout but austerity and poverty still exist for many. sadly those with the power to change things aren't looking.Foodbanks, Clothing Banks and Baby Banks shouldn't exist but they do and are accepted as part of life. That is unacceptable in a so called civilised country.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

The primary school where DD teaches has a uniform policy, but only the jumper has the school logo on the front. The rest can be bought cheaply from Asda or Tesco. There is a system where if you have clothes that you've grown out of you can donate them to the school and those who can't afford new ones will be given one to fit, then the cycle starts over again until they wear out! No one is made to feel 'poor' as it's done discretley.2025 Fashion on the ration

My school had a second hand shop and most people bought uniform there. I think all schools should do it (as well as making basic uniform affordable with maybe a different tie and sew in badge). I went to a grammar school.9

No one is made to feel 'poor' as it's done discretley. That's a school with a realistic attitude. I and many others donated to the primary school uniform scheme but secondary school didn't have such a system for obvious reasons. They just wanted repeat buying from thre specialist supplier.A couple of friends one in our local hospice shop and another in the animal rescue one have spoken recently of the large amount of almost unworn school uniforms they have had donated.Must be down to the pandemic and not so much time in school for many pupils. As we know youngsters grow like weeds and can outgrow uniform often, could be worth anyone knowing someone who will struggle to replace pointing them towards the charity shops and maybe online sellers.I had a lovely time earlier watching MOTD. It began with a big blast of my beloved Neil Diamond singing Sweet Caroline which led into the Man U match. I'm getting my smiley happy moments where i can.Yesterday youngest spent some time trying to get my microsoft account back and did succeed. I was worried I'd never get back on MSE again. Only thing on screen were messages from Microsoft and Google. I was trying to decide on a new user name if I ever got back to MSE and feeling sympathy for the Ming who lost her original name of years.Anyway I'm back complete with my Glasgow Rose.Although we were a bit wiped out we decided to take a walk down to the village. A lovely sunny and breezy day. We made it all the way through and she came in three shops with me. Two small ones and a medium SBs they were very quiet and it was the first time she's entered a shop since Feb 14th last year after her last proper appt with our GP.A gentle stroll back and it was very quiet so she took her mask off a few times when there was no one around. As she's asthmatic she's struggled wearing a mask but the fresh air was very welcome to her.I managed to pick up two large tubs of Kelly's ice cream in the little Coop on the way there- shelves were full there unlike my last visit when there was barely anything. We overdid the ice cream and the hot chocolate with whipped cream we had later but it was a very good day. We're both aware we aren't out of the woods yet where the virus is concerned. Her anxiety was much less evident and that's a big positive. It may not seem a big thing to many but to us it's a big step.So smiley happy moments with the laptop, football inc Neil Diamond and a lovely slightly wonky walk- we were tired by then.I just need to order the dvd / cd external device i couldn't when the screen went blank. I have every Neil Diamond cd and lots of others so can relive today at Old Trafford and ones from last season once I've got that. Sweet Caroline isn't my favourite ND song. I preferred Stones and some others but it got us through last season and the finals and has replaced some of the anthems from back in the day. I think we'll be hearing it for a long time to come.sMOTD seems to be neverending tonight. Just waiting to .see if they show Ole's grin at the end.pollyx

I'm glad you and dd had a good day Polly.
We had some sun y'day afternoon, first time for ages, since the end of July it's been almost constantly overcast with a month's worth of rain falling in 10 days.

She was managing well until our GP called February last year. Stay indoors. Due to being immunosuppressed she's still under orders to take care.Friday would have seemed like a usual day to many but it was lovely to see her laughing and chatting as we had our wander.I hope you're both enjoying your new berth since moving and managed some shopping. Beano seems very sensible sleeping through the bad weather and enjoying the good.Fingers crossed you'll see more sun and will soon be able to watch your dvds again. I find it lovely how there are always one or more people on the fence to point us in the right direction when something is needed. It's sunny here this morning so hopefully we'll all have a brighter day.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
