I'm within very easy reach of Alnwick - didn't know it had such an interesting garden.. Hmmm. A lot depends on whether I've got room for any more groundworks..

Papers would blow off the desk even when the windows were shut if the wind was in the wrong direction. It was in the late 1970s during the "winter of discontent " and we had lots of strikes. I can remember trying to find my way out of the building during power cuts and worrying whether my train home would be running.I've just had to do some sums as apart from utter boredom and the only postive being the views of the river it's well in the past.I started in 1965. It was also very cold in there then and the paperwork would be flying around. I've no idea why the windows weren't kept closed as even in summer we were layered up to try to concentrate on work rather than numb body parts.I was long gone during the witer of discontent but clearly remember the coal man who kept my new born baby ,my one year old son my first husband and I warm and never without a fire. We did get the power cuts in the 70s but most of us planned and adapted. My strongest memory from working in the LB is winter smog and sometimes snow and ice when I came out of Moorfields station and set on the long walk past Minerva and down to the front.I had a very long commute by bus and train and was often worn out in winter with late buses or trains and cancellations. When the smog was down most of us would be damp and fithy when we finally arrived. Thinking back now it wasn't just being bored that led me to take on my mum it was all the other things too. I was working with lovely people but one by one we left and most of followed our hearts and settled into a career for the rest of our workng life.pollyx

Hello all. I've been reading on here about plants that could kill. We had notification today to close all windows and stay indoors as the local Easibake plant had a poison leak, ammonia. Perhaps someone took you lot literallyPollyanna sorry if I gave you a "turn" but methinks you doth protest too much ! I was wounded by you seeming to think I was lazy, this is not the case as I have plenty of servants to be lazy for me.nan aka AmyFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11
