Can it be rescued or shall I just be trendy and call it "Fusion Cooking"?Call it " Fusion Cooking" and save your energy. You're going to need it here. I am an exhausted wreck .We've visited the RHS show at Tatton many times. Maybe you and I were there at the same time sometimes. We always did the " Cranford Walk" in Knutsford . I was a great fan of Cranford and loved to see where Elizabeth Gaskell drew on her memories to create Miss Matty's Teashop and the homes of her characters. We loved wandering around the little shops selling lovely crafts and pretty china etc. It's a place that seems to be back in a previous time.Your scottish mils outraged reaction to the handbag reminded me of Dame Maggie Smith as Lady Bracknell in "The importance of being earnest", A Handbag in outraged tone but with a Scottish accent. Both you and Floss are lucky to live where you do. I could wander around both Tatton Park and Knutsford and never get bored.pollyx

Hey all - an interesting diversion that is worth a couple of minutes of your time.

Good to see someone with enough marbles left to offer good advice mothernerd..I read all Helen Forresters books living nor too far from the River Mersey. Truly heartbreaking with such dire poverty but very inspiring too. The day Helen tied her unwashed hair with a shoelace and walked up the steps of the building where she could do evening classes and get the education denied to her by her hapless parents made me cry. She was on her way. Dirty, half starved and exhausted but with hope.Often if I visited Liverpool I'd wander down to the Pierhead and gaze across the stretch of water and think of her not having tuppenceto cross the Mersey and seek help from her beloved grandmother. SShe stod there so many times with her smallest brother then had to do the long walk back to the hellish existence they were living. The books are very sad. To my mind though they are an important account of socail history, real and grim. The losses she had of those she loved seemed to increase her agony. It's hard to imagine how someone can carry on against all the odds.I was happy when she found her beloved professer but fate hit again. She got an honoury doctorate from Liverpool University many years after she walked up the steps to night school. A few years ago a blue plaque was put on the house she always longed to return to.I have all the books still including the one written by her son after she died which tied up all the ends of her long life. I'll never part with them.A girl born into wealth who found herself a Liverpool Slummy. I recommend everyone read them.pollyx.It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Pollyanna Er excuse me are you calling me lazy ? I do not do lolling ! I sit patiently and genteely waiting, even when I get a splinter I endure with that good grace ! So there ..... na, na, na, nah, nananFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently6

Amy sitting patiently is no excuse. I've been watching the two series of "Staged" with David Tennant and Michael Sheen in lockdown..Just little episodes twice a week on BBC1. I go to bed laughing as their chats have gradually shifted from initial chats to yelling and screaming at each other as lockdown continues. Your Doctor is a scruffy, dishevelled shadow of himself now. Recently he yelled I AM DOCTOR WHO! Michael Sheen replied " Not Anymore"So dear Amy your Dr is not going to arrive. Whether you're on the Fence or sitting on the suitcase I suggest you shift your backside and face reality as I had to. Harsh but true.pollyx

Dear Fencers for a moment there I thought I'd finally lost the plot and imagined mothernerds mention of Tuppence to Cross the Mersey. I've just found it in a long post so happy the marbles haven't been lost yet.Well I have been making some soups. I've had a bowl of one which seems to have improved my energy but not the typos. When they've cooled they're destined for the chest freezer in the garage. Bit of on topic OS there.I'm building up my energy to talk of the Settle and Carlise railway as that featured in my late husband and my lives. Many a snowy night he and initially his driver then he and his fireman would need to stay overnight as the snows hit Shap.I've been considering recruiting one or two relaible fencers to assist with keeping the more extreme elements here under control. I've noticed nan seems to be heading thst way..I did consider VJ but noticing she was offering a Tamworth pig when we have a serial killer here and may disappear at times to sit in the bath with Wallender. Probably best notgo there.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Thanks for the link VJ. Wow I want to be more Marlyn. Well apart from the arson! Can you all talk a little slower? I'm still catching up on posts while considering how to sort out Amy. She seems as though she could be a problem and we have enough problems with the Mings.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Burtha when you have been to Leigh I'm not far away, I live in Bolton. Another post industrial town, with a surprising amount to see. We even have an Egyptian section in our museum which had a makeover a couple of years ago. The people here are very friendly.

Anyway I'll get my mate Ming the mighty/merciless to give you what for if you don't let me play !!nanOn here sweet old ladies aren't always what they seem to be so that excuse wont wash. As for your mate Ming I'm beginning to wonder if you are another aler ego of that person. she has prevoius form for coming back under a new username claiming to be a sweet old lady.I don't know, parts of Cheshire, The Isle of Wight and other areas seem to be awash with gin requiring stretchers and introvenious fluids. Once upon a time posters were discussing the pros and cons of various dusters and other OS things. Now they're awash with gin, lolling about and causing trouble.Last night I was wondering if whichever Ming was talking had carried a wee dram of whisky on Burns night to an extreme and drank a full barrel. It's a good job we do have some sane and sensible people here. Try to imitate mothernerd, VJ although the Wallender thing is a bit concerning burtha running herself silly to visit everyone. maybe she should rethink sme of her visits and the others. You know it makes sense. it's not to late to change your ways.pollyxps for those inclined to loll about typing polly rather than pollyanna is less taxing if you're sitting on a fence or a suitcase.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
