Warning if you use contactless payments

Well i didn't pay for it.
My purchase was paid for by a contactless card (which i don't have) and the explanation given by the store Manager was that the previous customer paid for it.
It did happen, i have no idea how, only that the explanation i gave is the explanation that was given to me.
If you don't believe it then you wont need to check your bank statements and no need for you to comment here
I don't think your making it up, more the manager is an idiot.
I don't think the previous customer really did pay for your shopping, not disbelieving you, I'm disbelieving the store manager.
Surely if you tell the manager you haven't paid for it, if he thinks the previous customer paid for it, he would insist you also pay for it, not just let you through because the previous customer mistakenly paid for it (and if this did happen, will get refunded)The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.
Who will we blame then?0 -
I thought the OP said she had picked up a receipt with her items on it but with the end digits of a different bank card number?
I think those who are disbelieving just do not want to consider that this technology could go wrong. That is simply not true.0 -
I work for a bank and i don't know of anyone i work with, so far, who doesn't use contactless. It's fab ! I've used it almost every day since it was launched with no issues. I don't believe either that all the staff in a bank distrust contactless payments.0

If the previous customer notices the transaction on their statement and reports this as unauthorised then their bank may investigate and refund them but even if this happens, I doubt if you will hear anything as there is probably nothing tying you directly to the card transaction.0 -
Well firstly I always check every one one of my bank statements and I do this even on accounts which don't have debit cards so I'm checking that all transactions are correct. So your common makes little sense in relation to my post.
All you know is that you didn't pay for the transaction with one of your cards. The manager then told you that a previous customer had paid for it and you still seem to believe them 100% even though many posters have said this isn't possible. So why would you believe the manager of a supermarket who had no way of knowing what happened. How do you know it wasn't just some kind of glitch and nobody paid for it?.
Like I said you shouldn't believe everything you are told. I never said that this never happened!.0 -

Someone paid, the receipt had my purchases on it but with someone else's last 4 digit bank number. The Manager did not want me to pay as the items had already been paid for, that is why i left my details so i could pay at a later day.0 -
Do you realise how close you should hold your card to the machine to make the contactless payment? It is nearly impossible to pay someone else's shopping unless you put your card right over the payment terminal.ally.0

If the OP's story is true, i must be paying for a lot of peoples shopping ! Every time i use a supermarket checkout/self scan till ! I have 3 contactless cards in my purse (not RFID) which is usually in my hand whilst i'm paying. Strangely enough, this has never happened to me ?
The manager doesn't know what to say so has invented an explanation to fob the OP off.0
