Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) A lie in!
2) Had a tidy up on the allotment and had two bonfires as the piles of old raspberry canes were in two different places! Hens are well.
3) Part baked rolls for lunch.
4) Smaller son to football with his friends this afternoon. Bigger son went off on his motorbike 2ish and is not back yet.
5) I popped to Sainsburys and found the final, FINAL stocking fillers - a football magazine, a motorcycling magazine, a pack of pens each (useful for school) and a fleecy neck warmer thing for bigger son (keeps you warm in your motorbike helmet).
6) Macaroni cheese for tea with broccoli and gammon plus a couple of mince pies.
7) Enjoyed DIY SOS.
8) In bed and will watch something on iplayer.
9) Nearly forgot! Got paid for the election work I did a month or so ago. I don't find it very enjoyable (handing out reminder forms to about 300 houses) and it took me 12 hours of walking but the pay is very generous. The people were very friendly this year though - no swearing at me!0 -
Good Morning,
Woke up really early, can’t seem to go back to sleep.......too much to do today.:(
1. Managed to get my important letters into the post by the end of the day. Phew!
2. Nice chat with DS2 in car on the way to school.
3. Awards night at DS2 School. They have use of the hall at a local uni, so was very grand affair. Hats and gowns, but DS2 chose to wear his cadet uniform.Very proud Mummy and Daddy.
4. Fish and chips from the best chippy. :j
5. Peaky Blinders.......Last episode was a bit crowded! Could have made another episode just out of the last 10 minutes! .......Jessie Eden!
Last day today. Too much to do. Can’t stay late, cos the site manager wants to start his hols too!
Have a lovely day0 -
1. Back still feeling good. Been doing stretching exercises.
2. Last day at work until after Christmas. It went well, very well considering someone was ill and nothing was cancelled so 3 of us did the work of 4. We worked well together and it turned out well.
3. DS2 cooked tea which was welcome as I had loads to do prior to Christmas. I do have to "cook" a chocolate/toffee popcorn dish for him this morning for him to take to his office christmas lunch.
4. Paid yesterday. Much needed with Christmas and car MOT, service and road tax paid. It had all been saved for but that account was looking fairly empty.
5. DH received more presents - all looking like bottles of wine. Generally they are good quality too.0 -
Solstice pleasures,
We went food shopping but it wasn't at all busy, everyone was chilled and we got everything on the list.
Clonking noise from Capt S's carlocal garage can't do anything until next Wednesday, pleasure is we are fortunate enough to have two cars.
Over to the graves, tidied up and laid wreaths, blackbird singing in tree.
Watched AC The Crooked House, version I hadn't seen, very enjoyable.
Yule celebrations, candles lit, festive meal cooked and wine drunk. All blessings counted with each other right at the top of list,0 -
i love a good panto mhags we're planning on going during the 12 days of christmas. i have something planned for each day, ending with the annual 12th night party at the rectory

3) Got back on Monday to find a massive real tree in residence in the lounge, wonderful surprise from He Who Knows and makes the house smell gorgeous.
4) House is cleaned, dusted and tidy from top to bottom and ironing up to date except for a few things dried overnight.
5) Off to the garden centre for coffee in a few minutes and to visit the reindeer again, just love reindeer!!!0 -
Yesterdays pleasures..
1 A much needed lay in, feeling worn out at the mo.
2 We had time while travelling to the in-laws, so detoured to their local Charity shops to nosey, some great little finds, an after eight boxed watch, had to be acquired and a wonderful china weasel.
3 In laws on good form, we over fed, and I changed our meal plan tomorrow to less and healthy food. A wonderful invite for boxing day accepted.
4 My sale maxi dress turned up today, it looks stunning, such amazing quality I made the mistake of going back and appear to have acquired a pair of velvet leggings also at half price, and er possibly a top to accompany it rude not to all over half price.
5 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, saw a reindeer yesterday.0 -
House steam cleaned to within an inch of its life (ok bathroom to be finished after work tomorrow).
All pressies wrapped, except shortbread for stockings that will be cooked fresh on Sunday.
All Christmas food purchased.
Decorations up.
Spare room up to standard for guest.
Nearly there.
Santa's coming!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
Pleasures for today (Friday).
1) A lie in.
2) The washing machine man reappeared with the parts I asked him to get in the first place. He managed to break it a bit more so now the dial bit doesn't work at all and he'll be coming back after Christmas... The pleasures is that this is all under warranty!
3) Did very little all day.
4) Watched the Last Leg.
5) Going to bed in a minute and will listen to the radio.
Bigger son has been in full on twerp mode all afternoon. You'll all be pleased to know that he is going to educate himself from now on, I am "vile" (and worse) and he is moving out today. And he's on hunger strike. The moving out has not gone well as he has just come home and gone to bed. The hunger strike does not include mince pies.
In lighter news smaller son and I are going to watch his football team tomorrow and one of the ladies at Sainsburys told me there is a local fish and chip shop that does deep fried mince pies so we'll pop in there on the way home!0 -
Early o'clock here. I'm just enjoying the peace. There won't be anymore for at least a week.
Got a new dishwasher yesterday, it wouldn't fit in the allotted space by mm. Son had to take side of under sink cupboard off and then replace door back upside down! It has not drained, is making a funny noise and it's too heavy for me to pull out myself! So shall have to wait until someone else is up!
Need to problem solve before getting someone out. They came first thing and called 10 minutes before to say they were coming.
My mother came round. We don't have an easy relationship but she visited and kids went round later.
Nipped to tesco with son for just a couple of things. Waaaah! It was mad.
Nipped back later ...finally after 7 years I'd ran out of wrapping paper and tape. Got some RTC flowers. It was less mad.
Niece picked up DD2 , they went shopping and came back here for tea. GN sleeping over. She is such a constant chatter but I was to stay out the way as wrapping was being done. Suited me just fine. Wrapped up DNs purchases for her as I love wrapping! She was happy to watch!
Son and I had manoeuvred dining room furniture to allow for 11 people to sit. I currently have my table and chairs and a borrowed table that friend gave me when I first moved in, kept for the purpose of this big meal. If you're sat at the back you ain't moving!
Was in bed by 9pm. Amused by our family chat groups comments this morning...both my daughters talking about their littlest cousin! ( in a good way but very funny)
So I need to make a huge list of what's to be done. We have our 2 Australian visitors arriving today for next 8-10 days or so. There's a GN to be supervised. There's bathrooms to be cleaned and a dishwasher to sort. Boxes of stuff can go out in garage. Pavlova to be made. Another pud to be thought of. I have taken my RTC gammon joints from freezer. Bought turkey joints last night. I don't really 'do' bones. Used to do a big Kelly Bronze turkey back in the day pre move to Australia and OH would tackle the carving and bone management! Have made my cabbage, parboiled and frozen spuds and parsnips and sprouts. Have made and frozen cranberry sauce but may make some more. It is just one day. It's just one day out of the many I've had to get through this year. It's just food and I like food and I like cooking. It's family and it's friends and they should just be thankful it's not them that's cooking!
Right, I'm off to start my extensive to do list...first load of washing has just finished...sigh for Melbourne summers at this time of year and washing dried in half an hour! That's probably all I miss the heat for!
Have a good day0
