Standing Charge for Electricity
Comments
-
Have inquired from neighbors, within the building,
they are on residential tariff, standing charge is under 30 pence / day
Our standing charge is over £5/- per day0 -
-
Please, please MoLancs, organise a copy of your Council Tax bill and get that letter written to Eon Business
Their reaction won't be ' instant 'and until they release you the £5 a day continues.
Just as matter of interest, what is the rate of VAT charged on the current bills?0 -
From what we read the OP lives in block of flats / apartments in a converted building that used to be a care home. It appears that OP's flat has the supply that used to supply the care home in its entirety.
I would expect that all the other flats have brand new supplies installed as part of the conversion and as such their supplies would be provided on domestic tariffs. They wouldn't have needed to switch (some may have done so but that's irrelevant.)
OP don't delay - as others have said send Eon proof that your domestic. Every day is costing you £5. On top of that as a business supply you are paying 20% VAT instead of domestic 5%
Deal directly with Eon - do not go through any intermediary.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hello
We are very grateful to you all for your supportive input & guidance, thank you.
-Letter has been sent to Eon over the weekend, hoping for an early resolution, way forward.

Regards0 -
Fingers crossed that this will be resolved shortly - please keep the forum updated.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Good morning MoLancs and thanks everyone else for the fab information you've provided.
There isn't much more to add really, but we do have a specific team that deal with only Business to domestic accounts and I can get you in contact with them (I'm sorry I can't post the phone number) They'll ask you a few things below.
If you’re currently being billed as a business, but think you should be billed as a domestic customer – we’ll need to confirm a few things with you first. This will include:- Information about your property, for example is it a home, shop, office etc.
- Information about how you use your energy, for example is part or all of it used to operate a business.
I'm more than happy to get you in touch, you can email me using the address in my profile.
Thank you

If it is a business tariff, which it must be with that level of S/C, then why does the OP say that VAT is 5%? OP, what is the name of your tariff? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I am also confused but there can be business tariffs where 5% is charged because of a charity connection - my church account is a business tariff but is charges at 5%..
I suppose that's possible with a former care home.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

The level of VAT applied has nothing to do with the type of tariff the OP has.
VAT rate is based on usage, and set by legislation - if it's primarily used for domestic/residential uise, then the vat rate is 5%
(It's only 20% if not domestic/residential e.g. commercial usage
Other usage that can have the lower VAT rate include some non-business and small scale usage by charities for example)0
